About this Retreat
Dr. Jorgos Pappas, born in 1952, holds a Master of Science and a Doctor of Philosophy in Systems Theory from Imperial College London.
After various positions at universities in England and Germany, he was offered a professorship in mathematics at the University of Ibadan in Africa at the age of 30. Following an inner calling, he gave up his promising academic career. What followed were 10 years of traveling around the world, during which he met various Qi Gong and meditation masters.
After returning to Europe, he founded “ILIOHOOS – the School of Simple Living” in 1993 on Mount Pilion.
The guiding idea is to discover the ever-present life energy and consciously use it for a better life. For many years, he has lived according to this philosophy with his wife and son on Mount Pilion.
Dimitris Nterekas, born in 1981, holds an MSc in Civil Engineering from Delft University of Technology.
After working as an engineer for nearly a decade, he decided to change his life and began working at Iliohoos. There, he came into contact with the Qigong teachings of Jorgos and Lina and aims to continue their tradition.
He has attended Qigong seminars in Germany, Thailand, and Vietnam, and in February 2025 he completed his training as a Qigong instructor.
He now divides his time between Pilion and Berlin, where he continues to study and practice Qigong.
Details of this retreat
Hui Chun Gong means “Return to Spring” and is a centuries-old Taoist practice that was originally developed in the monasteries of the Complete Truth tradition in the Hua Shan mountains of southern China. The techniques were once used by Chinese emperors to promote health and longevity.
These gentle Qigong rejuvenation exercises are based on the principles of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) and work on the entire energy system. The movements support blood circulation, strengthen the organs, and help release tension. A central aspect is softness in the movements, which promotes the natural flow of energy (Qi) and brings body and mind into balance. Regular practice activates the body’s natural regeneration and leads to noticeable vitality.
At the Iliohoos retreat, movement, nature, and mindfulness come together to create a unique experience. Hui Chun Gong unfolds its full effect here—amid centuries-old olive groves and under the open sky. The fresh sea air and the peaceful surroundings support the harmonious flow of life energy (Qi) and blood circulation, promote relaxation, and allow for a deeper connection to one’s practice.
The retreat is led by Dr. Jorgos Pappas and Dimitris Nterekas, who, with their many years of experience, provide individual guidance to participants. In addition to the gentle movement sequences, Taoist meditations, breathing techniques, and self-massage complement the program. This creates a holistic approach that fosters vitality and inner balance not only during the retreat but also in everyday life. The retreat is held in German language only.
The combination of mindful practice, conscious community, and the healing power of nature makes Iliohoos the ideal place for your Hui Chun Gong journey.
