Details of this retreat
Arunachala: The Fire of Pure Light is an intimate, light-immersive retreat for profound inner transformation, held at the foot of sacred Arunachala mountain in Tiruvannamalai, South India — one of the world's most revered destinations for seekers of self-realization and non-duality.
What truly sets this retreat apart is direct access to Suresh Ramaswamy himself — author of the award-winning book Just Be, and widely regarded as an emissary of Light. Suresh's presence is woven through every session of the week, offered personally rather than through a program or curriculum. For the intentionally small group gathered here, this sustained, intimate connection with a realized teacher is rare, and for many, once in a lifetime.
The retreat itself is meditation-centric, built around direct experience rather than lectures or techniques to master: daily silent and guided meditation, satsang, and Light Transmissions offered throughout the week, in both formal sessions and quieter, spontaneous moments. Special events punctuate the week as well — a traditional Homa fire ceremony, guided nature walks and outdoor meditations, and a full moon ceremony held beneath Arunachala itself. On one day, guests visit the ancient Arunachaleswarar Temple; on another, Sri Ramanasramam, the ashram of the sage Ramana Maharshi. Toward the end of the retreat, the week builds to the Light of Infinity empowerment — a culminating ceremony, held personally by Suresh, that anchors and deepens everything received throughout the week. (Please note: the schedule may shift slightly based on weather and the retreat's natural energetic flow.)
The retreat is held at a serene eco-village sanctuary at the base of Arunachala, long associated with the sage Ramana Maharshi, whose ashram still sits at the mountain's base and remains an active center of practice today. The venue itself is designed as a living retreat from ordinary life: eco-friendly architecture, dedicated yoga and meditation spaces, a healing center and spa, a natural organic pool, and a sattvic café serving organic, farm-to-table vegetarian meals. Late October brings the gentle beginning of South India's northeast monsoon season — moderate temperatures, clean air, and a lush, green landscape.
Suresh's work has been recognized by David C. Lewis (mystic, The Hearts Center) and Bill Bauman, Ph.D. (modern-day mystic), both of whom have spoken to the depth of his spiritual mastery and presence. Past participants describe monumental shifts, calling the experience the treasure of a lifetime and praising the intimate, relaxed atmosphere Suresh creates.
There's a wealth of information available through Suresh's website, his book, and his YouTube channel — we encourage you to spend time with each before you register, to get a real feel for whether this retreat is right for you. For ardent seekers, this retreat is pure gold: simply unmissable.
What's offered here — direct transmission, sustained access to a realized teacher, and eight days immersed at one of the world's most sacred sites — is, by its very nature, beyond price. Yet this retreat is offered in a spirit of generosity rather than commerce, so that what's received here remains within reach of sincere seekers, not reserved only for those who can afford more.
