About this Retreat
Barbara Bash is a calligraphic artist who has been exploring the mixing of Asian sensibility with Western art forms for many years. She creates group experiences of creative aliveness with brush, ink and simple ritual. She is a Shambhala meditation instructor and has collaborated with musicians, storytellers, and dancers in fresh forms of visual learning. Her circle brushstroke is the new Eileen Fisher Company mark.

Victress Hitchcock grew up in London, Paris and Madrid as the daughter of a diplomat. She graduated from the London Film School in 1972 and began a 45-year career making award winning documentary and educational films. Her memoir. A Tree with My Name on It: Finding a Way Home was published by Bold Story Press in October, 2024. Victress lives in Colorado and teaches writing and contemplation workshops. She is a long time student of Chögyam Trungpa Rinpoche, and was ordained as a Buddhist teacher by Anam Thubten in 2013.

Where do our stories come from? How do we bring them to life in words and images?
Spend a day with writer Victress Hitchcock and artist Barbara Bash exploring the world of memory, through contemplation, words, and images.
In this one-day retreat at Sky Lake Meditation Center we will use prompted and free writing exercises, blind contour drawing, mapping and brush gestures to deepen our connection with moments from our lives and find ways to tell our stories in embodied language and visual images. There will be time to share in large and small groups.
The retreat is open to everyone. It is an opportunity to gather together and play in the non-conceptual space of creativity. No experience in writing or drawing is necessary.
Please bring:
A notebook around 8” x 10” - unlined - for drawing and writing.
A pen or pencil for writing.
Colored pens, pencils or markers for drawing.
Cost is $125. Lunch included.
