About this Retreat
Frederique (Fredje), lived in Italy where she became an expert gardener and ran her own garden center for twenty years. In 2017 she moved to the Moulin Scalagrand where she started her own permaculture farm and table d’hotes.
Her dream is to become self-sufficient and lead a sustainable life respecting nature, which in many ways she has just about realized.
In her journey of learning, directly engaging with the land, and with the support of her family, friends and local community, Frederique has cultivated a vegetable garden, two food forests, a natural pool and much more.
At the Moulin Scalagrand she offers workshops on permaculture, intuitive cooking with wild plants, wild foraging, fermenting vegetables, soap making and more.
She serves as an inspiration to people who are aligning with her philosophy of a back-to-basics life-style and gives back to her local community by means of exchange, solidarity and care for each other and the environment.
Details of this retreat
For five days, your host Frederique, opens her permaculture project to anyone who wants to connect with nature and experience an alternative way of life. Alongside enjoying the mill’s serene surroundings, relaxing in the garden, swimming in the natural pond and meditating, you’re warmly invited to join in the activities that keep this place thriving. From Monday to Friday, Frederique will be available all day to guide you and answer your questions on a range of topics: from permaculture and circular farming to garden mandalas, watering, composting, mulching, harvesting, seeding, pruning, and natural fertilizers. Whether you’re curious about beneficial bacteria and fungi or have practical questions, Frederique will be there to help. Each morning after breakfast there will also be time for a workshop, which can be scheduled the evening before depending on the interest of the group.
Workshops include:
Vegan cheese and yogurt making
Fermenting vegetables and making sourdough bread
Wild foraging and harvesting in the food forest
Soap, shampoo and cream making
Essential oil and oil infusion making
Good to know: This retreat is designed to give you the opportunity to participate in our daily life at the mill, so it is not a traditional experience. On arrival you will be given fresh linen to make your bed and you will be expected to help prepare and clear up the kitchen before and after meals. There will also be free time to rest and spend time by yourself and with your loved ones, but also time to learn a new skill and contribute to the collective experience.
