About this Retreat
Heather Cohen M.A. holds a Masters in Counseling from the California Institute of Integral studies. She has worked as a counsellor and a professional Astrologer for over 20 years. Heather's relationship with Ayurveda began in her early 50's when she started suffering from perimenopause symptoms such as fatigue, food cravings, and getting every cold or flu that came around.
Her experience with Ayurveda was healing on every level, body, mind, and spirit. Her experience in India was so powerful, and her health and vitality so pronounced that she decided to devote her time to bringing people with chronic health issues to India, to experience the power of Ayurvedic medicine in India.
Details of this retreat
I am so pleased to invite you to my 14 day Ayurvedic detox retreat. This retreat is traditional Ayurveda, (not a spa), it is for people struggling with chronic health issues that have not been addressed by their efforts. This is meant to be a small retreat with plenty of one on one attention and care. I will only be bringing 8 people maximum.
We will be meeting in Kerala, India, where I will have a car to deliver you to a gorgeous retreat centre, nestled in a small village by a river outside of Kochi, Kerala, India. This retreat was designed after my own retreat, I had been struggling with various perimenopause symptoms, exhaustion, irritability, food cravings, weight gain, and general misery.
After going to several practitioners in California and paying hundreds of dollars for supplements that did not help me, I decided to heed a friends recommendation to go to India,
Ayurveda changed my life and my relationship to my body. Ayurveda is a 5000 year old body mind spirit full body healing system and for me it was the first thing that actually worked. It is completely natural only herbs, body treatments, and curated food prepared specifically to support your detox. What is even better is the food is absolutely delicious, and you do not feel like you are hungry or missing anything! Unlike most centres, this treatment centre offers daily meetings with the Ayurvedic doctor, two 90-minute Ayurvedic treatments, one of which is usually massage. daily cooking classes, yoga, meditation, support group meetings, and one western astrology reading. There is also plenty of time to rest and retreat.
What to expect from a Panchakarma detox: Panchakarma detox has 3 phases
1. Purvakarma (Preparatory Phase):
Deepana & Pachana: Dietary practices to stimulate digestion and prepare the body for detoxification.
Snehana (Oleation): Applying medicated oils or ghee internally or externally to loosen toxins from deep tissues.
Swedana (Sudation): Inducing sweating through steam baths or other methods to further mobilize toxins and help them move to the gastrointestinal tract for elimination.
2. Pradhanakarma (Main Treatment Phase):
This phase involves the five main procedures, selected based on individual needs and dosha imbalances:
Vamana (Therapeutic Vomiting): To eliminate excess Kapha dosha, often used for respiratory issues and skin disorders.
Virechana (Purgation Therapy): To remove excess Pitta dosha, cleaning the digestive tract, liver, and gallbladder.
Basti (Enema Therapy): To balance Vata dosha and cleanse the colon, helpful for constipation, back pain, and joint problems.
Nasya (Nasal Administration): To clear toxins from the head and neck region, addressing issues like sinusitis and migraines.
3. Paschatkarma (Post-treatment Phase):
Samsarjana Krama (Diet Regimen): A gradual transition to heavier foods to restore digestive strength.
Vihara (Lifestyle Recommendations): Advice on healthy lifestyle practices to maintain dosha balance and prevent toxin re-accumulation.
Rasayana (Rejuvenation): Therapies and herbs to nourish tissues, boost immunity, and enhance vitality.
