About the Teacher

Why study with them?

We are proud to introduce Humberto Alcala, a modern-day medicine man who will be leading all of our medicine retreats. Humberto’s journey began ten years ago when his personal experiences with ayahuasca guided him away from a successful contracting business in California and towards becoming a revered facilitator and shaman of mental exploration and emotional healing through sacred medicines.

His path led him to live among indigenous tribes deep in the Peruvian jungle near Pucallpa, where he trained extensively with an experienced traditional Shipibo Shaman. This immersive experience included master plant dietas, vision quests, and profound inner work. Humberto’s unique background, combined with his traditional shamanic training, allows him to serve as a bridge between the western psychology of most participants and the native South American medicines and cosmology. This integration facilitates a transformative experience for retreat guests, enabling them to fully embrace the lessons learned during ceremonies.

Originally conducting small-scale sessions in his birthplace of Tepatitlan, Jalisco, Mexico, Humberto’s work has now expanded worldwide. He has traveled to various regions of Mexico, numerous cities in the United States, Europe, and now South America. With almost 8 years of experience, Humberto has facilitated over 400 sacred medicine ceremonies. Known for his down-to-earth, easygoing, and compassionate personality, he creates a safe and secure environment for all participants. Humberto’s philosophy centers around the belief that there is nothing to fix, and that we are already perfect as we are. He offers a transformative opportunity for individuals to reconnect with themselves, learn, grow, heal, and ultimately remember their true essence.

Guided by Wisdom and Heart
There are very few people in life who carry a presence so grounded, strong, and spiritually aligned that you feel safe the moment they enter the room. Humberto is one of those rare souls.

From the first ceremony, I could feel the depth of his experience and the integrity with which he works. He does not simply “lead” ceremonies — he holds them with strength, wisdom, and protection. His guidance during the Ayahuasca, Satori and Bufo journeys allowed me to surrender fully to the medicine, even during the most challenging moments.

There were moments when I felt lost in the intensity of the experience, and somehow, through his voice, his chants, his energy, I felt anchored again. It felt as though he was guarding the space in ways seen and unseen. That level of spiritual responsibility is something you cannot fake — it comes from years of devotion.

What touched me most was not only his strength as a Shaman, but his humility. There is no ego in his work. There is service. There is reverence. There is deep respect for the medicine and for every single person sitting in ceremony.

I felt supported. I felt protected. I felt guided. And because of that, I was able to face parts of myself that required courage and honesty. That kind of container changes lives.

Humberto, thank you for your wisdom, your chants, your prayers, and your presence. Thank you for holding the spiritual integrity of the space with such dedication. Thank you for helping me reconnect with myself in a way that words can barely describe.

I carry immense gratitude and respect for you and the sacred work you do.

Great experience at Mexisoul
I had a great experience at Mexisoul's ayahuasca retreat near Guadalajara. The atmosphere was warm and welcoming, staff caring and very attentive to all needs, food was wholesome, fresh and well made. Lodgings were rustic style and comfortable. The retreat offers a lot of different activities besides the ceremonies, which made the week a holistic experience for an overall reset. Highly recommended.

How Shaman Alberto Helped Me Heal
As a soldier, I’ve followed leaders my whole life — some who taught me discipline, others who taught me survival. But meeting Shaman Alberto at the MexiSoul Retreat introduced me to a completely different kind of leadership — one rooted in peace, faith, and the unseen.

From the moment I met him, there was something steady about his presence — calm but powerful, humble but deeply connected. He didn’t just “lead” ceremonies; he guided souls. He saw through my armor before I even said a word.

As a veteran, I’m trained to resist vulnerability. To keep control. But Alberto’s energy made it safe to surrender without feeling weak. During ceremony, he carried the space like a warrior of light — no ego, no judgment, just pure service. His chants, his prayers, his intention — they spoke directly to something ancient inside me.

There were moments when I felt the old memories rise — the deployments, the loss, the things I buried. But Alberto’s calm voice and sacred guidance helped me sit in those moments instead of running from them. He didn’t try to fix me. He helped me remember myself.

He reminded me that a true warrior’s strength isn’t about how much pain he can hold — it’s about how much love he can give.

Through Alberto, I experienced healing not just of the body, but of the spirit. He helped me reconnect with faith, forgiveness, and purpose. He showed me that God, spirit, and energy all work together — and that even warriors need grace.

What he gave me wasn’t just healing — it was direction. A new mission. To lead with compassion, laugh with humility, and serve from the heart.

I’ll forever be grateful for the peace he helped me find and the light he helped me remember.

Humberto helped to change my life!
I like to refer to Humberto as 'My Shaman'. This man helped to change my life. He offered me so much to deepen my spiritual journey. I'm going to speak to two things here...
I realized my deepest wound was around my father leaving me when I was an infant and even though we lived in the same small city, he made no effort to see me. I felt pulled to Humberto as a man I projected my father feelings on, and I felt afraid that he would be another man to push me away. So what did I do? I spoke to him about it. He listened. I thought I saw his eyes get teary. He told me I could change my story, to not judge my father too much, and that those were different times. Then he hugged me and told me that was from my father. I cry when I think of this!
And the second thing...after Bufo while Liberty was with me and we were talking about Love and how I could feel my heart so much, Humberto came up and knelt down by me. He said "You have everything you need in your heart".
I feel so much love and gratitude for Humberto. Thank you!
