About the Teacher
Why study with them?
With a lifetime devoted to the sacred traditions of his ancestors, Taita Richard Chasoy embodies the living memory of the Inga people. Born in Colombia and recognised as a respected elder within his community, he carries the ancestral responsibility of preparing the sacred Yagé medicine—a role entrusted only to those with deep lineage, discipline, and spiritual maturity.
Rooted in his paternal Inga lineage and enriched by the legacy of his maternal Tayrona ancestry, Taita Richard offers a perspective that bridges the ancient wisdom of both the Andean-Amazonian and northern coastal traditions. This unique convergence shapes a cosmovision that is both grounded and expansive.
From his home deep in the jungle of Puerto Asís, he lives in direct relationship with the plant spirits, the rhythms of the forest, and the guidance of his elders. His medicine work is not only ceremonial but also deeply ecological—honouring the land, the elements, and the cycles of nature that sustain all life.
Over the years, Taita Richard has brought this sacred work to communities across Latin America—from Argentina to Mexico, and throughout El Salvador, Panama, and the Dominican Republic—carrying his tradition with humility, strength, and unwavering commitment.
To learn from Taita Richard is to enter into a space of quiet depth, where teachings are shared not through theory, but through presence, lived experience, and the medicine itself. He is a guardian of nature and tradition, offering a transmission that speaks to the soul—an invitation into ancestral knowledge that transforms, heals, and reconnects us to what is essential. In walking this path with him, we help ensure that this sacred wisdom continues to thrive and be passed on to future generations.
