About the Teacher

Why study with them?

Sergio Andrés Mira Atehortúa is from Gómez Plata, Antioquia, where he lives with his partner, Jenifer Urán and there three children. Sergio is an artisan and enjoys creating sacred tools, as well as ceremonial instruments such as drums, rattles and necklaces.

Segio first encounter with Yagé was approximately 18 years ago, with the Inga people who are native to the Upper Putumayo. Later on, he connected with Andrés Córdoba Delgado, a traditional medicine man from the Pasto Nation and a Yagé musician. Segio developed a deep friendship with Andrés and they visited communities in Upper and Lower Putumayo, where they had the opportunity to study with Taita Richard Chasoy and Taita Domingo Watindioy of the Inga people. In the time they spent with the Inga tribe, they gained a deep understanding of the science behind the preparation and serving the medicine of Yagé.

Sergio eventually began to serve Yagé in the city of Medellín, where he would perform a social service of supporting low-income youth who were facing problems with addiction and crime.

Segio dedicates most of his time to his family and his mission of service as a medicine man and guardian of ancestral altars. Sergio walks the Native American altars, such as the Sun Dance and the Vision Quest, which originated from North America. He is an Inipi sweat lodge holder and bearer of Chanupa (sacred pipe), altars donated by the Nakota and Lakota peoples to the southern peoples, fulfilling the prophecy of the Condor and the Eagle. That deep prayer is for recognizing that all human beings are native children of the Earth.
