Mayanā Clarissa Lisboa (aka Maya)
Certified Ayurvedic Practitioner
Certified Yoga Teacher
Maya's journey as a Yoga & Ayurvedic practitioner began at the age of 16 guided by her passion for dance and catalyzed by a transformative spiritual experience during a movement workshop in her home country, Brazil. This initiation led her to California, where she met Baba Hari Dass, a beloved silent monk and master yogi from the Himalaya .
Immersing herself in the sacred teachings of Classical Ashtanga Yoga and Ayurveda as taught by Baba Hari Dass, Maya spent the majority of her adult life within Mount Madonna, a Yoga community & Retreat Center nestled in the redwood forest of the Santa Cruz mountains. Within a community of spiritual seekers, Maya served in various roles, including director of choreography for a K-12 performing arts program, dance and yoga teacher, wellness center manager, massage therapist, vegetarian chef and permaculture designer—all the while nurturing her role as a devoted mother and grandmother.
Formally trained in the sciences of Yoga and Ayurveda at Mount Madonna Institute, Maya is a Certified Ayurvedic Practitioner by NAMA, a 500-hour Certified Yoga Teacher, and a Certified Massage Practitioner by CAMTC - California Massage Therapy Council. She specializes in the art and science of Pancha Karma after apprenticing with Dr. Suhas and Dr. Manish Kshirsagar, Dr. Sarita Shrestha and Susan & Jeff Turner. Maya holds a BA in Latin American and Latino Studies with a minor in Indigenous Studies from UCSC and a MBA in Sustainable Business from Maharishi International University, a consciousness-based university and dedicated to the practice of Transcendental Meditation.
Maya's professional experience is grounded in a lifelong dedication to holistic self-care that aims to foster equilibrium in body, mind, and spirit through a reciprocal relationship with nature. With over two decades of experience, Maya blends practical wisdom, intuitive insight, and a profound reverence for the sacred in her work, guiding both herself and her clients towards greater health and fulfillment with love and compassion.
