Nofit Itzhak

Nofit Itzhak is a psychological anthropologist, holding a doctorate from the University of California in San Diego. She is a specialist in the anthropology of healing and of religion, and has practiced, researched, and written on shamanism and other therapeutic and healing practices for the past twenty years.

Her work on shamanism, especially on soul retrieval and soul loss, has been published in academic and popular journals. Her article, “Making Selves and Meeting Others in Neo-Shamanic Healing” has won the Society for Psychological Anthropology’s prestigious Richard Condon Prize. Nofit lives in Barcelona, where she works at the Universitat Rovira i Virgili as a researcher and lecturer. Previously, she was a lecturer at the University of California in San Diego, where she has taught classes in psychological and medical anthropology, focusing on such themes as religious, ritual and indigenous healing, therapeutic efficacy and process. She has collaborated with Arvick Baghramian over the past twenty years in creating training, courses, and other content on shamanic healing and practice. Throughout her career, Nofit worked with shamanic practitioners in Israel, Europe, and the United States.
