About the Teacher

Why study with them?

Nana Jeruxa is an Ajq’ij (Mayan Priest), Traditional Doctor, Sobadora, and Temazcalera from Mexico — a woman who carries the fire, the prayers, and the ancestral memory of her people. A descendant of the Mazahua Nation, she has walked the sacred path of traditional medicine and Mayan spirituality for more than twenty years, guided by devotion, discipline, and a profound commitment to her lineage.
Her spiritual journey began in Guatemala, where she was initiated as a priest within the Mayan Kaqchikel tradition. This initiation opened the doorway to a life of service, ceremony, and guardianship of ancient knowledge. Over the decades, she has worked closely with Mayan elders from the Quintana Roo Peninsula and Yucatán, receiving teachings, responsibilities, and blessings that she carries with deep respect.
Nana Jeruxa is a member of the Council of Nuevo Sol Mayan Priests, a circle dedicated to preserving and transmitting the spiritual traditions of the Maya. Her voice has been present in linguistic gatherings of Indigenous peoples, where she advocates for the protection of native languages as vessels of worldview, identity, and ancestral wisdom. She has also shared her teachings as a speaker at the International Women’s Meeting “We Move Forward” and the Latin American International Women’s Gathering, offering her perspective on healing, tradition, and the role of women in spiritual leadership.
Her life’s work is rooted in the preservation and revitalization of traditional medicine, Mayan spirituality, and ancestral knowledge. She has promoted numerous initiatives to keep these practices alive, ensuring that the wisdom of her elders continues to guide future generations.
As a Traditional Doctor, Nana Jeruxa specializes in the prevention of women’s illnesses through the ancient arts of Mayan massage (sobada) and the temazcal ritual. Her healing work restores balance to the body, vitality to the spirit, and connection to the sacred feminine. Through her hands, her prayers, and her ceremonial presence, she supports women in remembering their strength, their cycles, and their inherent wisdom.
Nana Jeruxa walks with the clarity of lineage, the humility of service, and the unwavering commitment to keep the ancestral fire burning. Her path is one of guardianship — of tradition, of community, and of the spiritual teachings that continue to illuminate the way for all who seek healing and remembrance.
