Bhante Sujatha – “The Loving‑Kindness Monk”

Bhante Sujatha is a Theravada Buddhist monk hailing from Kandy, Sri Lanka. Ordained at the age of 11, he embarked on a lifelong journey of spiritual dedication. Today, he is the abbot of the Blue Lotus Buddhist Temple and Meditation Center in Woodstock, Illinois, where he leads a global movement of loving-kindness meditation.

Known affectionately as “the Loving‑Kindness Monk,” Bhante Sujatha has spent over four decades bringing peace and compassion into people’s lives through his teaching. He travels relentlessly, leading more than 380 guided meditations per year and speaking around the world, always with an emphasis on making profound Buddhist principles accessible and deeply practical for modern life.

Bhante’s approach is both joyful and grounded. He believes teaching includes helping others learn how to be happy in everyday moments, transforming work and daily life into spiritual practice. His warmth, humor, and simplicity have made him a beloved teacher, regardless of whether you are new to meditation or well-practiced.
