About this Retreat
Founder and Director of Pneuma Trance®, and developer of the Pneuma Trance® Method — a structured approach to trance induced and sustained through introspective breathing, guided attention, meditation and symbolic processes. He holds a Master's degree in Transpersonal Psychology.
His work focuses on the disciplined exploration of Non-Ordinary States of Consciousness (ENOC) through non-clinical, structured and repeatable practices integrating neurophysiological regulation, attentional training and introspective observation.
Louis serves as lead facilitator and space holder during Pneuma Trance® retreats, guiding participants through trance practices, meditation, symbolic work, ceremonial processes and group integration. His role includes maintaining the structure, safety and coherence of the retreat environment, supporting grounding, regulation and integration throughout the experience. He is certified by the American Red Cross in Adult and Pediatric First Aid/CPR/AED.
He is also Founder of the Pneuma Trance Research Institute (PTRI), where the method is studied through structured observation, documentation and ongoing research into consciousness, introspective practices and non-clinical models of regulated trance.
His retreat work may also include traditional cleansing practices, fire-based ceremonial work, chanting, sound, focused-intention practices and structured conscious-contact exploration. These elements are approached as experiential and spiritual practices, without guarantees of specific outcomes or therapeutic claims.
Details of this retreat
This retreat is a structured immersion into Pneuma Trance®, a method of trance induced and sustained through introspective breathing and guided attention, framed within the symbolic context of Día de los Muertos and its representation through Catrinas as expressions of memory and continuity.
The program integrates somatic practices, introspective breathing, meditation, silence, symbolic observation and guided attention within a controlled and non-clinical framework. The core of the work is the cultivation of pause, internal observation and symbolic presence, aligned with the cultural atmosphere of remembrance and ancestral reference.
The experience combines structured Pneuma Trance® sessions with the landscapes and monuments of central Mexico. In Huasca de Ocampo and Mineral del Chico: morning meditation at Peña del Aire, the basaltic prisms and waterfalls, guided forest hikes, the grounds of Hacienda Santa María Regla, and evening fire gatherings. In Teotihuacan: a pre-dawn hot-air balloon flight over the pyramids, silent walks through the pyramidal complex, observation of spatial geometry, a traditional temazcal, "Danza del Sol" with local dancers, live immersive sound including Coyocohualli and fire flute with Carlos Bastón, and a closing integration circle with live mariachi.
Catrinas are approached as symbolic representation rather than spectacle — a visual and cultural layer connected to perception, identity, memory and continuity. Participants are invited to take part in a symbolic preparation inspired by Catrinas, which may include optional face painting or subtle adornment. This is approached as a process of symbolic identity and presence rather than costume or performance, functioning as a transition into a dedicated ceremonial and contemplative space where participants engage from a different perceptual position. The process is guided and respectful of cultural context.
Beginning on the evening of November 2, the group enters a progressive period of preparation, meditation, focused intention and observation related to exploratory attempts at conscious contact. November 4 is especially dedicated to this intention: the day includes meditation, focused attention and preparation, followed approximately from 6:00 PM until late at night by a fire gathering with meditation, chanting, vocal practices, silence, focused intention, observation and periods of waiting under the night sky. The purpose is to create a structured environment for exploration and observation. No contact, encounter, manifestation or extraordinary experience is promised or guaranteed.
Participants engage in daily sessions, group integration and individual observation within a contained setting, allowing exploration of Estados No Ordinarios de Conciencia (ENOC / Non-Ordinary States of Consciousness) through structured and repeatable practices, without requiring the use of plant-based substances.
The program may also include access to culturally and symbolically significant areas associated with Teotihuacan when authorization and local conditions permit. Certain locations, including areas traditionally associated with the underground or "underworld," are normally restricted to the public; any such access is considered a possible additional experience and is never guaranteed as part of the retreat.
Optional traditional plant-based practices, cleansing practices and other traditional healing-related activities may be made available. Participation is entirely voluntary and at the sole discretion of each participant. These activities are complementary to the retreat: they are not part of the core program, are not required for participation, and the retreat is not based upon them. Alternative activities and spaces are available for those who prefer not to participate. Any such activity is handled separately with appropriate orientation beforehand. Plant medicine is not included in the listed retreat price and is handled separately outside the platform.
Assistance with flight booking and travel coordination is available upon request.
