We are proud to introduce Humberto Alcala, a modern-day medicine man who will be leading all of our medicine retreats. Humberto’s journey began ten years ago when his personal experiences with ayahuasca guided him away from a successful contracting business in California and towards becoming a revered facilitator and shaman of mental exploration and emotional healing through sacred medicines.
His path led him to live among indigenous tribes deep in the Peruvian jungle near Pucallpa, where he trained extensively with an experienced traditional Shipibo Shaman. This immersive experience included master plant dietas, vision quests, and profound inner work. Humberto’s unique background, combined with his traditional shamanic training, allows him to serve as a bridge between the western psychology of most participants and the native South American medicines and cosmology. This integration facilitates a transformative experience for retreat guests, enabling them to fully embrace the lessons learned during ceremonies.
Originally conducting small-scale sessions in his birthplace of Tepatitlan, Jalisco, Mexico, Humberto’s work has now expanded worldwide. He has traveled to various regions of Mexico, numerous cities in the United States, Europe, and now South America. With almost 8 years of experience, Humberto has facilitated over 400 sacred medicine ceremonies. Known for his down-to-earth, easygoing, and compassionate personality, he creates a safe and secure environment for all participants. Humberto’s philosophy centers around the belief that there is nothing to fix, and that we are already perfect as we are. He offers a transformative opportunity for individuals to reconnect with themselves, learn, grow, heal, and ultimately remember their true essence.
Dr. Liberty Eberly is a visionary leader in the field of psychiatry with a focus on holistic care, the intersection of spirituality and mental health, and the incorporation of psychedelics and plant medicines in healing, recovery, and personal growth. As a board-certified psychiatrist practicing since 2009, she also recently became a certified psychedelic-assisted therapist, with an emphasis on psilocybin, MDMA and ketamine.
Dr. Eberly attended her first ayahuasca retreat at Mexisoul in 2023, returning for retreats with friends and family several times since, drawn to the safety, small-group intimacy, and loving support of the staff at Mexisoul. She also recently completed a very disciplined, 3-week master plant dieta in the Amazon jungle of Peru, working with a Shipibo shaman to both deepen her own experience with ayahuasca and to build a relationship with the sacred Amazonian Noya Rao tree.
During your Mexisoul retreat, Dr. Eberly, in the role of integration coach, will lead group discussions on integration and will be available for 1:1 sessions to support your unique, personal journey and exploration. She often uses an IFS-informed (Internal Family Systems) approach to help individuals tap into their own internal wisdom and will empower you with skills to take home post-retreat, ensuring your time at Mexisoul will be transformative and unforgettable.
Krista, a gifted medicine woman, brings her gentle presence and nurturing spirit to every ceremony at MexiSoul Retreats. Her strong feminine energy creates a safe container for deep transformation, helping each participant feel truly held throughout their journey.
She leads and coordinates the support team, ensuring that ceremonies unfold with care and love. Deeply attuned to the emotional and energetic rhythms of the space, Krista offers calm, heart-centered leadership to both the team and our guests.
Her grounded presence anchors the room, bringing steadiness and sensitivity to each moment. With an intuitive sense for what’s needed, she helps cultivate an environment where guests can surrender to their process and feel deeply cared for.

How Krista’s Support Helped Me Through Ceremony
In every ceremony, there’s someone who carries a quiet kind of strength — the kind that doesn’t speak through words but through presence. For me, that was Krista.
From the very beginning of the week, she felt like the heartbeat of the space — steady, nurturing, and full of grace. There was something motherly about her energy — the kind of care that makes you feel safe to let go, to cry, to laugh, or to simply be human again.
As a veteran, I’m used to environments where showing emotion is seen as weakness. But with Krista around, I didn’t feel judged for feeling. When the medicine got heavy, she was there with a hand on my shoulder, a gentle word, or just her quiet presence — reminding me that I wasn’t alone.
Her warmth filled the room in a way that made everyone feel held — not just physically, but spiritually. She had this rare gift of seeing people exactly where they were, without trying to fix or change them.
Throughout the week, Krista reminded me of compassion — the kind I’d forgotten to give myself. Her energy felt like home, like the embrace of something pure and loving that asked for nothing in return.
When I think back on my MexiSoul journey, I remember the moments when I was deep in reflection, unsure, or emotional — and it was always Krista’s quiet, motherly care that grounded me.
She didn’t just support the ceremony — she embodied the spirit of it.
I’ll always be grateful for the comfort, love, and presence she brought to my healing. She reminded me that strength isn’t always loud — sometimes it’s found in the softest, kindest hearts.

How the MexiSoul Retreat Helped Me as a Military Veteran
After 20 years of military service, you learn to build walls.
You learn to compartmentalize — to push through pain, lead under pressure, and silence emotions that don’t serve the mission. It’s a survival instinct. But when the uniform comes off, the mission doesn’t end — it just changes. What used to protect you starts to weigh you down.
The MexiSoul Retreat gave me something I didn’t even know I still needed — permission to feel again.
As a veteran, I’ve carried invisible rucksacks full of things I couldn’t name — anger, guilt, loss, control, and the constant need to stay “ready.” But during the ceremonies and deep inner work at MexiSoul, I was reminded that true strength isn’t in control — it’s in surrender.
The experience brought me face-to-face with parts of myself I’d buried under years of service and survival. It wasn’t about escaping the past; it was about making peace with it. I learned that healing doesn’t mean forgetting — it means transforming pain into purpose.
In the military, brotherhood means having someone’s six. At MexiSoul, I found a different kind of brotherhood — one rooted in truth, vulnerability, and spiritual connection. For the first time in a long time, I didn’t have to lead. I just had to be.
Ayahuasca, the environment, and the people helped me shed layers of ego and control that the Army had built in me out of necessity. I came out of it not softer — but clearer, more grounded, more compassionate. I remembered that before I was a soldier, I was a man — a husband, a father, a servant of God.
MexiSoul didn’t just help me heal; it helped me come home to myself.
Now, when I serve — whether it’s my family, my business, or my community — it comes from a place of peace instead of pain.

How My Integration Coach Liberty Helped Me Heal and Grow
The ceremony might open your heart — but integration is where the real work begins. And that’s where Liberty became my anchor.
From the first moment we talked, she met me with patience, understanding, and zero judgment. She didn’t try to analyze me — she listened. She heard the soldier, the husband, the father, the man still trying to make sense of everything he’s seen and survived.
During the retreat, Liberty was steady — always close enough to guide, but never in the way of the medicine. She reminded me to breathe through the chaos, to surrender to what needed to surface, and to trust that God and the medicine were working together. When I came out of ceremony confused or emotional, she helped me translate those experiences into lessons I could actually carry home.
She sat with me as I wrote my reflections — not just to organize my notes, but to help me find the deeper meaning behind them. With her help, I created a plan — a daily practice of gratitude, prayer, journaling, and family connection — to keep my spirit grounded long after the retreat ended.
As a veteran, I’ve lived most of my life with a mission mindset — complete the task, stay sharp, move forward. But Liberty showed me that integration isn’t about pushing — it’s about allowing. It’s about turning insight into action, and action into peace.
She taught me that healing doesn’t end when the ceremony does — it continues in the small choices, the quiet moments, and the way I show up for my family.
Because of her, I didn’t just have a powerful retreat — I came home with a clear roadmap to keep growing, healing, and loving with intention.
Liberty wasn’t just a coach — she was a light in the middle of my transformation.
