Meet our Guides

Yeke Huni Kuin

Daughter of Tuim Nova Era, is a young apprentice and guardian of the Huni Kuin tradition. Even at a young age, she has already undergone initiation diets and stands out as a communicator and emerging leader in her village, Espelho da Vida.
Yeke is a talented artist, with many original songs that express the strength, beauty, and spirituality of her people.
She accompanies her father in cultural and spiritual work both in Brazil and abroad, sharing her powerful voice, traditional prayers, and guitar playing. Wherever she goes, she enchants and inspires, radiating love, healing and joy through music & the spoken word.

Txima Huni Kuin

Representing the elder of the delegation, Dona Txima played a key role in the revival of the wisdom of Kene Huni Kuin. There was a time in the Humaitá Indigenous Land when this ancestral wisdom was fading, with few practitioners and almost no voice to keep it alive. It was then that Dona Txima took the initiative to travel to another Indigenous Land, seeking to strengthen and revitalize this ancestral knowledge. After absorbing and enriching herself with this experience, she returned to her Indigenous Land with the purpose of sharing this wisdom with all women interested. In addition to being a master in the arts and Kene Huni Kuin knowledge, Dona Txima is also a great expert in traditional Huni Kuin medicines.

Tuim Nova Era

Chief and spiritual leader of the Huni Kuin Espelho da Vida Village, was born and still lives in the Huni Kuin Indigenous Land of the Humaitá River, located in the state of Acre, in the Amazon region of Brazil.
He comes from an ancestral lineage of pajés (shamans) and Txanás (spiritual guardians), and for over 23 years he has conducted ceremonies with the sacred forest medicines beyond his village. He considers himself a lifelong student of the healing plants and sacred songs of his people.
Tuim is also the founder of the Huni Kuin Espelho da Vida Center for the Study of Traditional Medicines (Hiwea Kiri Beisiti).

He played a key role as one of the main figures in the cultural revival of his people beginning in the year 2000. After the Huni Kuin people went through extremely challenging times that nearly led to the loss of their traditions and customs, Tuim brought back the sacred use of the Nixi Pae (ayahuasca) on Indigenous land and promoted the research and recovery of traditional sacred songs, in partnership with elders and knowledge keepers from other Indigenous territories.
His efforts inspired people of all generations—from the elders to the youth and children—to reconnect with their roots.

Tuim has also been a strong supporter of the women’s movement within his Indigenous Land, always encouraging and standing behind the initiatives led by women. He recognizes the feminine force in preserving culture, caring for life, and strengthening the collective well-being of the community.

Today, many young Txanás are following in his footsteps, strengthening and promoting the rich culture of the Huni Kuin people. They are committed to sharing this ancestral knowledge with the world, helping to preserve their traditions and create spaces where their voices can be heard—contributing to greater autonomy and social development.

The Huni Kuin are an indigenous people from the Brazilian and Peruvian Amazon whose communities are located along the Tarauacá, Jorda˜o, Breu, Muru, Envira, and Humaita˜ Rivers in Brazil and the Purus and Curanja Rivers in Peru. There are about ten thousand members of the community today and their name translates to ‘true people.’ Plant medicine and shamanism is integral to how the Huni Kuin interact with the natural and spirit worlds.

This Huni Kuin family is coming to share their culture and traditional practices by welcoming you into their communication with the natural spirit world and by illustrating the current situation facing both the Amazonian peoples and the forest’s countless inhabitants.

It will be a beautiful sharing about their origin story and their call as Messengers and Guardians of the Amazon forest. This is a visit that will inspire the world so we can take the time to reflect on this beautiful life and find a collective way creating a better future for all generations to come on this Earth.
