About this Retreat

Details of this retreat

Join us for a day of reflection and renewal as we honor the winter solstice.

This quiet retreat invites you to encounter the Forest in her winter beauty—the stark grace of bare trees, the stillness of snow, and the sunlight streaming through where once there was shade. Throughout the day, you’ll be guided through meditation, a restorative sound bath, and a workshop exploring what nature can teach us about resilience in the heart of winter. The fireplace will be lit in the main house, the wood stove will be burning in the community center, and there will be hot beverages available throughout the day.
Lunch will be provided.
Cost: $25–$60 sliding scale.
Donations for our sound bath leader are also welcome.
In addition, we will be offering spiritual direction sessions and Reiki healing sessions throughout the day for an extra cost. You can add these in the "optional items" section of your registration form.

Entering the Forest is a peaceful experience and you'll have the opportunity to meditate in a beautiful Meditation Chapel with large windows looking out into the woods. Other meditation areas include a traditional Zen Garden, a woodland labyrinth for walking meditation, and an underground meditation chamber (the Cave of the Mothers) with wonderful acoustics for chanting.

Our retreat center also has a trail system along wooded bluffs with views of Shell Lake and downtown Tulsa. You can rent a cabin to experience the peaceful setting overnight for your own personal retreat. Our rental rates include three meals a day in our dining room, where you'll eat alongside other guests and residents of our community. The Forest also offers a full range of programs and retreats on meditation and spiritual topics.

You have a range of options to experience meditation in a way that suits you. You might choose to join our resident community for meditation held Tuesday through Saturday at 7:00 a.m., 12:00 noon, or 4:45 p.m., and on Sunday at 9:45 a.m. in our Meditation Chapel. Here you'll experience a meditation of 25 to 45 minutes with others who can help guide you.

Or, you may wish to simply rake the Zen Garden as you contemplate the prayer flags in the trees overhead. If you prefer to move while meditating, walking the labyrinth or hiking the trails will give you a chance to reconnect with nature. The Cave of the Mothers provides you with a dark, quiet place where you will be amazed by the sound of your chanting reverberating all around you.

An Oasis of Joy in a Forest of Peace
My first visit to Osage Forest of Peace was in 2014, after a visit to Shantivanam in India. This gem in north eastern Oklahoma's "Green Country" has been a sacred space since Sister Pasqueline and two additional Sisters of the Benedictine Order founded it in the 1970s. It remains in near pristine condition, surrounded and interpenetrated by the most remarkable forest, and is a must for anyone seeking some solitude and a break from whatever ails them. From the forest labyrinth to the zen garden, the hiking trails and the little chapel which was Sister Pasqueline's abode this space is a perfect respite, a shining gem. I don't believe that this review does the space justice, but I do hope that it is enough to encourage you to visit.

Lovely Environment
I stayed in a lovely quiet and warm cabin. David McDonald made himself available to answer any questions and to help out whenever needed. I really look forward to my next visit to the forest as it really is a place of solitude. I attended the be still and know retreat, and I would very much like to stay longer the next time. The meals were not as tasty as I have experienced there in the past.

The cabin was a delightful balance between colorful and simple. Meals were plentiful, nutritious and lovingly prepared. Meditation, readings, labyrinth and forest walks invited peaceful reflection.
