About this Retreat
Bob Dozor is a Dharma College Faculty Member. Formerly the Medical Director of the Integrative Medical Clinic of Santa Rosa, he currently serves as the Medical Director for the Nyingma Senior Retreat Center at Ratna Ling. He holds a BA from the University of Chicago in the history and philosophy of science and an MD from the University of California, San Francisco. He has been a student of Buddhism since the 1960’s and a student of Venerable Tarthang Tulku since 1972.
Rosalyn White was the Director of Ratna Ling for 7 years. She has studied meditation and Tibetan art under the guidance of the Tibetan Buddhist teacher, Tarthang Tulku, for over forty years. She holds a BFA in Fine Arts from the California College of Art and a teaching credential from UC Berkeley. She has been teaching classes in meditation and sacred art for over 25 years. The depth and breadth of the Tibetan teachings have had a profound influence on her life, and inspired her to share her knowledge in order to help others to find the beauty and purpose in their lives. Her goal is that in your time with her you will get in touch with a stiller, deeper part of yourself and gain a sense of health and balance.
Carl Pilcher is retired from a career in space science and is part of the Dharma College Faculty. He holds a B.S. and Ph.D. in Chemistry, the latter from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and an M.P.A. in International Relations from Princeton University. He was on the astronomy faculty of the University of Hawaii for a dozen years before becoming a NASA administrator for almost 3 decades. His professional arc took him from planetary science to serving as Director of the NASA Astrobiology Institute. He began studying ancient teachings in 2015 with a Hindu teacher and joined the Dharma College community as a student in late 2021. Central to his interests are integrating ancient wisdom, particularly of non-dualism, with a modern scientific world view.
Abbe Blum, Ph.D., teaches Tibetan yoga, contemplation, and mind courses at the Nyingma Institute and Dharma College in Berkeley, California, and has helped to edit some of Tarthang Tulku's books for Westerners. She is also a faculty member in the Psychology program at Saybrook University. She is part of a team that will be offering Kum Nye Tibetan Yoga teacher training for the first time through the Nyingma Institute, based in Berkeley, CA, and offered online in August 2020.
Details of this retreat
We welcome you for a thoughtful, heartfelt and practical experience of Deep Ecology through the non-dual lens of Buddhist philosophy and practice. Offered by faculty of Dharma College, our sister organization in Berkeley!
This weekend retreat is dedicated to an exploration of Deep Ecology, an environmental philosophy that illuminates how humans are deeply integral and interdependent with Planet Earth. We will delve into the Deep Ecology teachings of Joanna Macy, Gary Snyder, Robin Wall Zimmerer, Evan Thompson, Bill Waldron and others. We will draw wisdom, compassion and contemplative exercises from the teachings of Tarthang Tulku, a Tibetan Buddhist lama and author, who teaches about the interconnectedness of all things.
This immersive experience will guide participants towards a deeper understanding and more fulfilling practice of our relationship with our world, encouraging spiritual and ecological harmony. Ratna Ling, a secluded retreat center surrounded by natural beauty, will facilitate our relaxation into deeper connection with Mother Earth. This retreat will help us reexamine our beliefs and perceptions about our individuality and separateness. When we feel reconnected, ecological restoration will come naturally. Until then, it might seem impossible.
This retreat aims to not only inform and inspire but also create a lasting, positive impact on how we live our lives in harmony with nature, self, and others.
This retreat is for you if you are interested in environmentalism, Buddhism, nature, social justice, or oneness.
If you are interested in similar topics, please join us for weekly online classes at Dharma College for The Pattern That Reconnects from November 5th to December 17th, 2024.
