I am Diego, a traditional healer from Puerto Asís, Putumayo. I specialize in developing remedies for all types of illnesses and providing spiritual counseling. For more than 25 years, I’ve received teachings and ancestral wisdom from the elders of the Lower Putumayo region. I’m a husband and father of two children who are also on the path of yagé medicine.

Samuel Vélez

I’m Samuel Vélez Arismendy, husband, father, and lifelong student on the medicine path. As an apprentice and practitioner, I accompany those who seek to grow, heal, and live with greater purpose. Above all, I’m a human learning how to truly live.

Andrea Diaz

I am a woman, wife, mother, and community leader, dedicated to ancestral medicine. My work focuses on the holistic care of families and children, guided by sacred and medicinal plants. For over 25 years, I have practiced ancestral therapies such as body massage, herbal baths, specialized treatments for women, and group workshops.

At Camino al Sol, we offer a sacred space for profound healing, remembrance, and personal transformation—rooted in the ancestral plant medicine traditions of Colombia. Nestled in the lush mountains near Medellín, our retreats are guided by experienced taitas and medicine women from Putumayo who carry deep knowledge of the yagé (ayahuasca) path.

Each retreat is an immersive journey supported by nature, tradition, and community. Through sacred ceremonies, integration circles, and connection to the land, guests are invited to shed layers of old conditioning and reconnect with their essence.

You will be held in a small, intentional group to ensure safety and intimacy, with personalized support before, during, and after the retreat. Between ceremonies, you’ll enjoy wholesome Colombian meals, time for rest and reflection, and optional activities such as breathwork, meditation, and ancestral teachings.

This is not a tourist experience—it is a return to what has always lived within you.

Important note for women:
In the lineage practiced at Camino al Sol, participation in ceremonies during menstruation is not permitted. If your cycle overlaps with the retreat dates, you will not be able to take part in the ceremonies. We recommend checking your cycle in advance and, if needed, choosing dates that align safely with this guideline. If uncertainty remains, please contact us before booking so we can support you in selecting the right dates.

Schedule

While each day offers a unique rhythm, a typical day at Camino al Sol is designed to maximize your introspection and integration:

Food: All meals are delicious, plant-based, and prepared with fresh, local ingredients, which supports your body’s processes. This rhythm ensures a balance between ceremony, personal introspection, and community support.

Mornings: These typically begin with a light, nutritious breakfast, followed by quiet reflection, guided meditations, or gentle movement (e.g., yoga, stretching, hiking).

Afternoons: These may include integration workshops, circles of word, educational talks on ancestral wisdom, time for personal reflection, or nature walks through the stunning Andean landscape.

Directions

José María Córdova International Airport (MDE) — located in Rionegro, about 20–23 km (≈ 30–40 minutes) from Medellín, is the primary airport for international arrivals and most domestic routes .

We have 2 different options of accommodations: Shared cabins accommodation 4 people in a cabin- this accommodation is included with the price of the retreat. It is comfortable, down to earth and simple. Private cabin- we have 3 high-end private cabins that are perfect for couples or individuals.

I noticed this review email in my inbox a few days ago, not sure what words of praise to choose to convey my absolute appreciation- so I left it alone for a while. There are a few words that come to mind now.
Truth. Ancestry. Joy. Family. Stars. Deep earth. Cosmic heart. Mother and father. Brothers and sisters. True living. Garden. Ample giving. River of life. A smile on the face of light. A hug. Community of soul. – those words are a little bit to describe the feeling I got from the people who live on site and facilitate this amazing experience. The shamans, Diego, Andrea, and Samuel are exceptional masters.
The facility is amazing on every level, it is a large parcel that turned into a new earth—it’s a dream, and yet very down to earth. I think they need more pictures lol. They have private cabins, and also communal lodging. The cabins are high-end—I added a bit extra to stay in a private cabin that is totally 5 star lodging.
The ceremony is sacred and how you experience it is up to you- but the environment is nurturing and freeing.
I guess you can tell, I had a wonderful retreat. Don’t pass this one by- it is a must. I will be going there again.
