RETREAT BY INVITED PRESENTER
As His Holiness the Dalai Lama has famously said, “If you want others to be happy, practice Compassion. If YOU want to be happy, practice Compassion.” Over the course of an engaged weekend, learn how to bring compassion for yourself and others into your daily life—and discover its power to mitigate pain from loss, fear, and disappointment. You will leave not only with greater inner peace, but with a newfound capacity to "live beautifully" in a world of constant change.
"John is wonderfully informative, humble, funny and wise—as always, I learned important lessons from him."
PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
One of the primary teachings of Buddhism is that Joy is “our birthright.” It is our “natural” state.” If that is so, why do we often find Joy so elusive?
The Buddha gave us a roadmap for finding Joy. One of the central ingredients of that quest is the cultivation of Compassion – for ourselves, for others, and for the world at large. But for a variety of reasons, we often suppress our natural impulse to meet the world with Compassion.
In Buddha’s teachings we are encouraged not to shield our eyes or turn away, but to work on unveiling the “natural” Compassion that enables our Heart to grow larger . . . to become expansive enough to hold ALL of the experiences of our human lives. Cultivating Compassion and forgiveness for ourselves and others is an essential part of our spiritual quest and a cornerstone of our journey to happiness. Compassion will sustain us through times of fear, sadness, and disappointment.
What stands in the way of Compassion? Perhaps it is our own mind – our preferences, and aversions, our opinions and attachments, our desires and resentments. How do we learn to experience Joy when we live in a world seemingly filled with uncertainty, impermanence, and disappointment? How do we work with anxiety and fear? How do we heal from the losses we have experienced, and how do we live and interact in a world in which there is so much dishonesty, unkindness, and violence?
Through meditation practice, dialogue, a variety of enlightening, exercises, and dharma talks, we will experience a weekend focused on deep rest and finding Inner Peace no matter what is going on in our bodies, our lives, or the world around us. We will learn how to find the path to our own “True Nature” – and how to rest in the sacred sanctuary of Love in our own Heart(s).
You will leave feeling inspired, rested, uplifted, and supported – with new tools for “living beautifully” no matter what.
