About this Retreat
Donna, creator of Handmade by Ying with Donna, launched her first sewing video in 2022 and has since built a vibrant community focused on sewing, longarm quilting, and pattern making. Through her engaging sew-alongs, weekly livestreams, and practical teaching style, she helps quilters of all levels grow their skills with confidence.
Since 2023, Donna has hosted retreats across WV, PA, TN, KY, and MD, offering workshops in Bargello, quilt-coat construction, and foundation paper piecing (FPP). She brings warmth, clarity, and encouragement to every class and is excited to share her passion with makers at Hidden Falls Farm Retreat.

This retreat is hosted as a private retreat experience that has been opened to public registration. Whether you are new to Bargello quilting or already love the movement and artistry of these stunning quilts, this retreat is designed to help you relax, create, and fully immerse yourself in the process.
Participants will work from two coordinating Jelly Rolls while learning how color placement, strip arrangement, and cutting techniques work together to create the flowing movement Bargello quilts are known for.
What to Expect
This retreat is intentionally designed to move at a relaxed pace, allowing participants time to focus on precision, creativity, and enjoying the process. Bargello quilts take patience, but the results are absolutely worth it. Over the course of the retreat, you will learn all the skills needed to create the Bargello quilt of your dreams.
Day 1: Prepare jelly rolls and plan your color flow layout
Day 2: Begin sewing strips into cylinders while learning techniques to keep seams flat and straight
Day 3: Learn the process of cutting your Bargello strips and organizing them using tag labels
Days 4–7: Assemble and sew the final quilt sections for accuracy, movement, and visual flow
Guests will make use of the large design walls provided throughout the studio to audition layouts and visualize their quilts as the design evolves.

The NeedleNest Suite is a spacious shared room designed for up to four guests, each with a Twin XL bed featuring a 14–16" DreamCloud mattress, soft microfiber sheets, a waffle blanket, and a quilt. Each bed includes a headboard with built-in outlets and a nightstand with additional charging ports.
This room also includes:
Private full bathroom (shared by this room’s guests)
Large walk-in closet with extra pillows, blankets, and linens
Smart TV and ceiling fan

Two Twin XL beds in the same room can be converted to a King upon request

The Lazy Daisy is a cozy, embroidery-inspired room that hosts two guests. Named after the classic embroidery stitch used to create flower petals, this room invites you to relax and bloom. Each Twin XL bed features a 14–16" DreamCloud or Nectar mattress, soft microfiber sheets, a waffle blanket, and a quilt. Guests each have a personal headboard with charging outlets and a nightstand with additional ports.
Also includes:

Shared access to a full bathroom on the lower floor

The Purl Room is a quiet, knitting-inspired retreat that hosts two guests. Select this option if you prefer a private room with a larger King size bed. When selecting this option we will convert the two existing twin size beds into a large King size bed using our King conversion kit. As always, all bedroom have 14–16" DreamCloud or Nectar mattress, soft microfiber bedding, a waffle blanket, and a quilt. Each bed has a headboard with outlets and a nightstand with extra charging ports.
