Lucien Heusser

About the Teacher

Why study with them?

Lucien Heusser is a psychoanalytic psychotherapist with a deeply relational, intuitive way of working. Shaped by a lifetime of cross-cultural experience and extensive psychoanalytic training, he is drawn to what sits just beneath the surface — the hidden loyalties, repetitions, defences, longings, and tensions that quietly organize a life.

He has an unusually quick eye for psychological dynamics, often sensing the pattern in a room, a relationship, or a story before it has fully found words. His work is curious, warm, and alive, combining clinical rigour with a sensitivity to the body, imagination, symbolism, and the emotional textures through which unconscious life makes itself known.

Widely published in psychoanalytic and clinical circles, Shelley’s work has appeared in Studies in Gender and Contemporary Psychoanalysis, Psychoanalytic Perspectives, and the American Journal of Psychotherapy. He brings both depth and colour to therapeutic work, interested not only in what has happened to a person, but in how those experiences continue to live — in relationships, symptoms, desire, shame, conflict, and the ways we protect ourselves from what matters most.

His presence invites a particular kind of exploration: safe enough to go somewhere difficult, but never so careful that the work loses its vitality. The result is a space that can feel searching, provocative, playful, and deeply human — one in which people are invited to encounter themselves with greater honesty, complexity, and freedom.
