About Compassion Retreats

Mission & Vision

Mission: We keep a private place in the jungle near Tulum, Mexico, where one person or one couple at a time can put down what they have been carrying, and we look after them while they do it. Our approach is transpersonal. We do not diagnose and we do not treat. The work belongs to the part of you that already knows, and ours is to hold the conditions steady while it moves. This is service rather than an industry.

Vision: Care like this should not be a luxury. A place like this should be open to anyone who needs it, whatever they can pay. That is why we price the way we do and why we keep a fund for those who cannot.

The house is called Alma Chakana. A family built it by hand and lived in it for years before it came to us, and it stands in the jungle outside Tulum, in Quintana Roo, Mexico. It is not a hotel and it does not run like one. While you are here nobody else is booked in. The property holds one party at a time.

Your villa is yours alone, with its own pool and the jungle closing over the roof. The buildings were hand-made from natural materials and most of them open to the air, so the jungle is in the room rather than a picture of it outside. The ground between them has been left as it grew.

Tulum town is close when you want it and far enough that the quiet survives. We include transfers from Cancun (CUN) or Tulum (TQO) and book the car ourselves. The exact location goes to you when your dates are agreed.

Menu Types

Cooking here belongs to the schedule rather than interrupting it. A chef works in the kitchen most days, and some evenings one of us takes the stove instead, which turns into the meal people remember. What reaches the table is whole food from the market and from growers nearby, cooked on the day and mostly plant-based. Nothing processed and nothing that takes a paragraph to explain. Vegan, gluten free, soy free, raw, keto and paleo are ordinary requests here rather than special favours, and allergies and medical diets are treated as facts rather than fuss. One message before you arrive covers the whole stay. The meals run long. Breakfast waits until you surface, lunch sits by the pool and dinner is by candlelight, with more on the table than you will finish.
