About this Retreat
Neta found Iyengar Yoga at 18, seeking a method by which to balance the body, mind and spirit. During her first class, she realized that Yoga would be a life-long path.
Neta has been teaching Iyengar Yoga since 1998 (Certified level 2). Her style of teaching is deeply rooted in her architectural background. She teaches Asana (Yoga postures) with a studied understanding of structure and space. Sharing her love and knowledge of anatomy, Neta guides students towards a profound understanding of the body and its potential.
Neta is co-owner of Samamkaya Yoga Back Care & Scoliosis Collective, a studio dedicated exclusively to yoga for back care and scoliosis. Besides teaching Asana classes, Neta taught Yoga philosophy at the School of Visual Arts for many years. She now leads a philosophy class online.
Eve has been practicing yoga since 1994. Initially drawn to it for relief from chronic back pain following a childhood horseback riding injury, she has grown to view yoga as an exploration of the nature of life and what it is to be a human being.
She is a graduate of the two-year teacher-training program at the Iyengar Institute of New York (2005). She became a certified Iyengar Yoga teacher in 2006, and currently teaches at the Junior Intermediate Two level. Eve is co-owner of Samamkaya Yoga Back Care & Scoliosis Collective, a studio dedicated exclusively to yoga for back care and scoliosis, and founder of The Nerve of Expression, a community project offering yoga to artists with multiple sclerosis.
Eve traveled to Pune, India to study with BKS Iyengar, his daughter Geeta, and son Prashant for extended periods to develop her practice and assist in the medical classes there.
Details of this retreat
Join Neta Katz and Eve Holbrook for a week-long retreat at beautiful Centro Santillan. Gloriously situated in the Axarquia mountains of Southern Spain, Santillan is an authentic Andalusian farmhouse overlooking the Mediterranean sea; a spectacular location to relax, connect with yourself, deepen your practice, and explore the rich cultural heritage and natural beauty of Andalusia.
Santillan features one of Europe’s finest state-of-the-art studios equipped with an inspiring rope wall, spacious en-suite accommodation, delicious locally-grown vegetarian food, and a range of indoor and outdoor facilities, less than 30 minutes from Malaga airport by car.
We will lead two daily extended yoga classes suitable for all levels — an active asana class in the morning, and a restorative and pranayama practice in the evening. As the week progresses, we will build upon a steady foundation of fundamental principles, towards a deeper, more refined practice that addresses individual needs, and develops each student’s skills and abilities. If you have any physical issues or injuries, we will help you modify for them.
Between sessions, there will be time to relax in the extensive gardens, on the terrace overlooking the sea, swim in the saltwater pool, and take walks. You may want to further explore the surrounding area which is rich in natural and historic beauty. The coves of Nerja, ancient Ronda, the white-washed village of Figiiliana, and Malaga’s Historic District are all a 30 minute drive away.
Our retreat is designed to be a transformative experience and not just a holiday with yoga. As a participant, this means being prepared to work and cultivate one's awareness in class and beyond. Please keep in mind that the focus is mainly on the yoga practice and this should be mindfully considered when/if planning excursions.
