About this Retreat

Details of this retreat

Summary

Most yoga teacher trainings teach you to lead a class. This one teaches you to understand yoga.
There is a growing number of practitioners who feel the gap between what yoga has become in its modern, studio-based form and what they sense it could be. They have practiced for years, experienced genuine moments of depth — and noticed that the framework most trainings offer does not quite contain what they are actually looking for.

This 28-day residential training starts from a different premise: that yoga has roots far older, far stranger, and far richer than studio culture inherited. That those roots point toward something real — embodied awakening, the direct recognition of awareness as the ground of experience — and that understanding those roots changes how you practice, how you teach, and how you meet your own life.

The training is Yoga Alliance registered (RYT 200). Fully residential, 28 days, in the pine-covered mountains of Chiapas, Mexico. The philosophical core draws from non-dual Shaivite Tantra alongside classical yoga texts, and integrates somatic practice, emotional work, meditation, pranayama, Sanskrit, anatomy, and extensive teaching methodology into a single coherent experience.

This training is by application. Discovery calls are done personally by Kyle. Apply via WhatsApp before committing.

The Training

Why This Training Exists

Modern yoga has drifted far from its origins. Most teacher trainings follow that drift — emphasizing postural precision, cueing language, and a brief introduction to the Yoga Sutras as philosophical background. This produces teachers who can run a competent class. It rarely produces teachers who understand what they are teaching.
This training is built on a different foundation. The philosophical spine is non-dual Shaivite Tantra — not as a rejection of classical yoga but as a fuller picture of the tradition. In this view, the body is not an obstacle to awakening but its vehicle. The world is not something to transcend but to inhabit more fully. Practice is not self-improvement but the progressive dissolution of the habits that prevent genuine presence. Understanding this changes what you teach.

This Training Is For You If...

• You've been practicing for years and feel like you've only scratched the surface — like the yoga you've encountered is pointing at something it never quite names
• You're less interested in perfecting your downward dog than in understanding what yoga actually is, where it came from, and what it originally pointed toward
• You sense that real teaching comes from understanding, not technique — that the most inspiring teachers understood something, and it showed
• You're considering a training not because you have a class lined up, but because 28 days of immersive study feels like the right container for the depth you're looking for
• Or you do want to teach, and you're worried you won't be good enough — confidence in teaching comes from genuine understanding of what you're offering and why, and that's what this training builds

What You Will Gain

1. Personal Transformation First

• A deeper sense of embodied presence — in the body, not in concept
• Inner resources to navigate the demands of your life from a place of greater stability
• Clarity regarding your spiritual longing and how your life can flow in harmony with your aspiration
• Tools for emotional integration and growth
• Confidence that emerges from the depth of your practice, not from memorised sequences

2. Embodied Skill, Not Just Theory

• Detailed asana study: anatomical, energetic, and meditative perspectives
• Foundational pranayama and breathwork from classical Hatha Yoga and Tantric sources
• A full range of meditation and self-inquiry practices
• Somatic and subtle body work: breath, mantra, visualisation, energy channels and chakras (multiple systems — not just the common seven-chakra model)
• Basic Sanskrit pronunciation and optional introductory language study
• Thai massage fundamentals
• Introductory somatic psychotherapy principles

3. Historical and Philosophical Depth

• Full arc of yoga's development from asceticism to embodied realisation, drawing on current scholarship
• Primary text study: Patanjalayogashastra, Hathapradipika, Datatreyayogashastra, Gorakshashatika, Amritasiddhi, Tantrasara, Pratyabhijna Hrdayam, Shiva Sutra, Spandakarika
• Multiple chakra and subtle body systems including the Tantrik 5-layered model — beyond the standard syllabus

4. Teaching From Understanding

• Guiding students safely and authentically
• Crafting and delivering talks from personal experience and genuine understanding
• Intelligent sequencing — and knowing when to drop it
• Holding space for transformative practice
• Power dynamics and the teacher-student relationship
• Teaching as seva (service) — the shift in orientation that sustains both practice and teaching over time

How This Training Differs

Most 200-hour trainings: 21 days or fewer. As few as 6.5 hours of class per day. Single daily practice session focused primarily on posture. Yoga Sutras and Bhagavad Gita as philosophical background. Single seven-chakra system.
This training: 28 days fully immersive. 9+ hours of class per day. 4+ hours of daily practice. Non-dual Shaivite
Tantra as the philosophical spine. Primary source text study beyond the standard syllabus. Multiple subtle body
systems. Anatomy taught partly through Thai massage. 3-day silent retreat included. Post-training development container.

What Makes This Training Special

• Facilitators with decades of deep experience and extensive personal practice — nearly 45 years of combined study and teaching, including extended solitary and darkroom retreat experience and ongoing study with leading Sanskrit scholars and Tantrik teachers
• Genuine philosophical depth — primary Tantric and yogic source texts studied directly, beyond the standard syllabus
• Fully immersive 28-day residential container — not a commuter training
• Yoga Alliance RYT 200 registered
• Unique anatomy approach: textbook study plus Thai massage plus lived asana inquiry
• 3-day silent meditation retreat included as a central component, not an add-on
• Small group, intimate setting — maximum 22 people at Hridaya Family
• Post-training online development container for graduates
• Sacred Mayan mountain land in Chiapas — a setting of genuine power
