About this Retreat

Details of this retreat

Kriya Yoga is a sophisticated method of harmonising and synchronising the natural energies of our being. The chakras are opened up and our physical, pranic, mental, emotional and psychic energies are brought into line so that they flow together in a powerful stream making us more sensitive to the deeper levels of our Being.

"We start to vibrate and resonate like a tuning fork, leading to subtle perception previously unknown." Swami Nishchalananda  (read the full article: Kriya Yoga – A Systematic Approach to Spiritual Awakening).

Origins & Practice

Kriya Yoga comprises ancient practices that were passed down from teacher to student. The word Kriya can have two meanings, the first is 'to move' and the second is 'practice'. One of the joys of Kriya Yoga is that you do not have to be good at concentrating. Throughout the Kriya Yoga practices the mind is constantly moving - rather than trying to hold it on one specific point you are moving it in a set order around different points, or through different energetic pathways. The practices incorporate asana, pranayama, mantra, visualisation, mudra and bandha and by holding the awareness lightly through these different practices the distractions of the mind can start to fall away, and the state of one-pointedness can arise without effort.

"Kriya Yoga converges all the energies, gross and subtle, into a bindu in the middle of the mandala of one’s being. This is the gateway to meditation...” Swami Satyananda

Course Structure & Approach
The course introduces Kriyas systematically across 4 residential retreats and 3 online days, building from preparatory practices (such as breath awareness, working with psychic pathways, chakra locations, mudras, bandhas and shatkarmas) and Kriyas 1–3 in the first retreat, to mastery of all 20 Kriyas. Consistent home practice is required between retreats.
