About this Retreat
Colette Lafia is a Spiritual Director and award-winning author who gives in person and online retreats to an international audience. Her work has been featured with
Spiritual Directors International,
Gratefulness.org, and the
Shift Network.
Her newest book,
Leaving the Shore: Experiencing Poetry as Prayer (Monkfish Press 2025), is a contemplative collection of poems accompanied by sacred practices of Lectio Divina and journaling prompts. With a foreword by James Finley, the book invites readers to experience poetry as a form of prayer, drawing them into reflection, surrender, and intimacy with the Divine. Endorsed by Richard Rohr as a work that reveals “how God's enduring love is present in all we experience,”
Leaving the Shore offers readers an entryway into seeing their own lives as sacred texts.
Details of this retreat
Lent is a season that invites us into deepening our prayer life. In this presentation on her new book Leaving the Shore: Experiencing Poetry as Prayer, spiritual director Colette Lafia will explore how praying with poetry helps us:
Recognize the sacred in the small details of our everyday lives
Create a holy spaciousness around our experiences, instead of rushing past them
Slow down so there’s more room for God’s presence in what we notice and how we respond
This will be a prayerful gathering. There will be short readings from Leaving the Shore, guided Lectio Divina, and spiritual journaling, along with time for Q & A. During this Lenten Season, come and pray with the poetry of your life, listening deeply for how God is calling you during this sacred time.
**Participants are encouraged to get a copy of Leaving the Shore: Experiencing Poetry as Prayer, as it will be used throughout the workshop.
