Rev. Paul Moreau, VF

Father Paul was born in Victoria BC Canada, the youngest of the 11 children of the late Joseph and Mary Moreau. Father attended Thomas Aquinas College in California and then joined the Legion of Christ in 1993. He studied Philosophy and Theology in Rome and was ordained a priest in 2002. A year after his ordination he was transferred to Atlanta to be chaplain at Holy Spirit Prep School in Sandy Springs. In 2011, father left the Legion and joined the Archdiocese of Atlanta. He has served at St Michael the Archangel Catholic Church in Woodstock, St Joseph Catholic Church in Dalton and is currently pastor at St Joseph Catholic Church in Athens and St Catherine Labouré Catholic Church in Jefferson. He serves in the Archdiocese of Atlanta as a whole as the Dean of the East Deanery, the Chair of the Council of Priests and on the Ongoing Formation Committee for Priests.

Betsy is a native of Atlanta, a mother of two young adults, and a convert to Catholicism. A life-long Christian raised in the Episcopal church, she experienced a deep conversion and was received into the Catholic Church in May of 2008. She has led Bible studies for over 30 years. A parishioner at St. Joseph's in Washington, GA, Betsy and a team of people are revitalizing the site of the first Catholic congregation in Georgia into a faith-focused district which includes the historic Church of the Purification of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Locust Grove Cemetery, a retreat property, and a working farm. Betsy is an investor in Good Country Pictures, a movie company bringing the stories of Flannery O'Connor to feature film and TV in hopes of evangelizing the culture. Wildcat, a biopic on the life of Flannery O'Connor, was released in September 2023, receiving numerous accolades for creativity and production.

Details of this retreat

Father Paul Moreau and Heritage Founder Betsy Orr have been connected for nearly 2 decades. In 2007, Betsy, who was a Protestant Christian at the time, found herself at a silent retreat led by Father Paul which focused on the spiritual exercises of St. Ignatius of Loyola. Extended periods of silence that fateful weekend served as a major catalyst for deep conversion and Betsy's reception into the Catholic Church 18 months later.

Early into the 2025 Advent season, Father Paul and Betsy are teaming up to offer an experience at Heritage which will provide the opportunity to weave more silence into your life and help prepare you to thrive in the Advent and Christmas seasons.

This program is open to women age 18 and older.

The Retreat Center is located approximately a 2-hour drive from Atlanta Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport. For guests flying in, we recommend renting a car to enjoy a scenic and flexible journey to the property. This will also provide convenient access to nearby attractions and amenities during your stay.

Accommodation

Each cottage is designed to encourage rest, reflection, and prayer with soothing color palettes, comfortable beds, and elegant furnishings and accessories. Relax on the screened porch and observe God’s creation among the natural beauty of the wooded landscape. Take a short walk to experience meditative prayer spaces with stunning sacred art, fish at the fully stocked pond and dock house, or enjoy one of the many fellowship spaces, which include the pavilion and fire pits.

The bedroom sleeps up to 4 guests and has a private bath. The breakfast nook which includes a mini-fridge, microwave, and Keurig coffee maker is shared with a double twin room. The shared living room replete with vaulted ceilings and spacious screened porch furnished for outdoor sitting and dining is shared with other guests in the building. The shared living living room replete with vaulted ceilings and spacious screened porch furnished for outdoor sitting and dining offer ample spaces for fellowship with fellow retreatants. Studio Cottage starting at

up to 2 guests | 1 queen bed | 1 bath Our most private cottage type is perfect for one guest or a couple with a studio floor plan, private bathroom, and breakfast nook with a mini-fridge, microwave, and Keurig coffee maker. Oversized windows and a vaulted ceiling bathe this dramatic space with light and provide views of the surrounding trees for a quiet retreat or morning coffee in our woodland setting.

One Bedroom Cottage starting at

up to 2 guests | 2 twin beds | 1 bath Our one-bedroom cottages provide a thoughtfully appointed bedroom with twin beds to sleep up to two guests, a private bathroom, a cozy sitting area, and a breakfast nook with a mini-fridge, microwave, and Keurig coffee maker. A screened porch completes this serene oasis in the woods, while proximity to Pine Lodge puts guests just steps away from programs and meals.

Two Bedroom Cottage starting at

up to 6 guests | 2 twin beds | 2 queen beds | 2 baths Our two-bedroom cottages offer ample space for small groups and families to spend quality time together in a peaceful setting. Each cottage sleeps up to six guests, with two queen beds in an oversized bedroom and twins in a second spacious bedroom, each with a private bath. A cozy breakfast nook with a mini-fridge, microwave, and Keurig coffee maker completes the experience. All of our two-bedroom cottages offer shared access to a sun-filled living room replete with vaulted ceilings and spacious screened porches furnished for outdoor sitting and dining. These cottage living rooms and porches are shared spaces between two two-bedroom cottages.
