Drazen Dupor is an artist and iconographer, specializing in Byzantine iconography. Born in Croatia, Drazen studied the art of icon painting in Thessalonica, Greece, at the K.N. Georgiadis School of Art. Since moving to the U.S. in 2003, Drazen has taught icon painting lessons in his studio and he frequently presents workshops for retreats, churches, and community groups. He accepts commissions for small and large icons, and he has painted large murals in numerous churches in the U.S. Drazen and his wife, Nives, make their home in Madison, WI.
Details of this retreat
Discover the sacred art of Byzantine iconography as you create your own icon of St. Joseph the Worker. Guided step-by-step through the process by experienced iconographer Drazen Dupor, participants will paint a traditional icon on a prepared 11" x 15" wooden panel and learn the techniques used in this centuries-old artistic and spiritual practice.
Each icon will be enhanced with technical gold leaf, and students will receive a pre-sketched board to help them begin. No previous experience is necessary. Whether you are an artist, a person of faith, or simply curious about this ancient tradition, you will be supported throughout the process and leave with a completed icon of your own.

Accommodation
Siena Retreat Center has 67 private bedrooms with private in-room bath facilities. Linens and towels are provided and guests have access to a free, fully-stocked guest laundry. We ask that silence be kept on bedroom floors. There are rooms with one twin bed, two twin beds and with queen-size beds. Only one person is assigned to a room unless you specifically request to share. Siena Retreat Center has elevator access to all floors and ADA accessible rooms are available upon request. Service animals are accepted.
