| Optional 1 Hr Guided Yoga Session

Allow yourselves to be held and guided by our in-house instructor for an hour of yoga in our sacred Maloca space. No prior experience required. The class will be created to suit your needs and capabilities. Stretch, relax and rest. Afterwards treat yourselves to a sauna and hot tub steps away from your room. Reservations required prior to arrival.

You create your own adventure! Enjoy one of your two included massages, take a trip to Ainsworth Hotsprings for a nourishing soak, explore the amazing natural environment, drop in for a private yoga class - create your dream stay!

The Sentinel

Directions

We are a 50-minute drive north of Nelson, BC, just outside the charming village of Kaslo. We are 9 hours by car from Vancouver, and 8 hours from Calgary. These drives are incredibly beautiful, wending through some of North America's most spectacular mountain terrain. There are flights (approx. 1 hour) from both Vancouver & Calgary to our nearest airport, in Castlegar, which is a scenic 1.5 hours from our door.

Driving from Nelson, follow highway 3A north to Balfour (Kootenay Lake ferry landing), and proceed another 20-25 minutes on Highway 31 north. There is a "Sentinel Retreat" blue road sign on the highway (approx. 60 km from Nelson). Slow down and prepare to take a sharp right turn onto Amundsen Road. The Sentinel is located at bottom of the hill. Please observe signs.

Accommodation

All our King and shared Twin rooms have stunning views of the lake and mountains. Whether you opt for a luxurious private King or a shared Twin, all our rooms are clean and modern. Ensuite bathrooms have heated floors, a rain shower, and amenities for your comfort. Fluffy white towels and crisp linens are found in every room — our goal is to ensure can relax and refresh during your stay with us.

Overlooking spectacular Kootenay Lake, the Lodge, with its massive windows and expansive deck affords breathtaking lake & mountain views. The Maloca, a magnificent round, timbered ceremonial and activity space, seems to float above the lake. A short stroll from the Lodge, the Sentinel's spa deck, with its unique wood-fired sauna and cedar-lined hot tub is a favourite gathering spot for guests, year-'round. 700' of lakefront, with deck, firepit and yoga area is a tranquil spring/summer area.

Beautiful Retreat

I was expecting a regular hotel when I booked, turns out I was in for a wonderful surprise.
My stay was very peaceful with beautiful views of the lake , serene surroundings and wonderful staff.

Enlightening, life changing experience

My girlfriend and I recently joined Gillian and Richard at the Sentinel for a 5 day excursion of self reflection and for me atleast, self understanding. I have been to many retreats over the past 7 years and this experience at the Sentinel was absolutely life changing for me. The integration work after the combination of medicines we experienced had me come to some serious realizations about myself and also has bolstered by move away from alcohol, which had been a nuissance in my life for the past couple decades.

I feel free from the chains. Thank you Richard and Gillian for your warm hospitality and your wisdom in facilitating our journeys at the Sentinel.

Transformative Experience!

I came into this retreat feeling a little nervous, but also in need of grounding. From the moment I arrived I was put at ease, the property itself is absolutely breathtaking and carries such a calming energy. Gillian and Richard are such beautiful souls, guiding with care, compassion, and wisdom that made me feel safe and supported throughout the whole experience.

Every detail was exceptional from the comfort of our room to the depth of the ceremony. This retreat was not only transformative but also heart-opening in the most profound way. I am so grateful for this experience and would recommend it to anyone seeking healing, clarity or simply a deeper connection to themselves.

Boulder Method Retreat

This is truly one of the most beautiful places in the Kooteney’s; nestled on the spectacular Kooteney lake with peaked mountains framing this healing centre where you can feel the love and energy that has gone into creating a treasure trove of nurturing spaces, and caring humans. To relax in the sauna, dip in the hot tub, or receive a massage in the yurt , or enjoy a freshly cooked meal while taking in views of the lake and mountains, I cannot think of a better place to come and rest and release and heal. What a gift this workshop was for my whole being . Thank you 🙏
