David Freeman is currently the Senior Pastor of First United Methodist Church of Little Rock. He has been in pastoral ministry since finishing seminary at Emory University in 2003. In an attempt to face his own bedevilments of perfectionism and people pleasing, he began studying the work of Brené Brown which continues to challenge and transform him. David became a Certified Daring Way Facilitator in 2017 and shares this work with other clergy and laity around the state of Arkansas mainly through retreats and workshops. He is married to Katie, who is a therapist, and together they are trying to show their two daughters as much of the world as possible before they leave for college in a few years. After many years of being an avid marathon runner, David’s joints asked him to slow down and spend more time hiking, which he loves. He also loves hanging out with his two best friends, Charlie and Slider.

A Journey Toward Wholehearted Living
What if, instead of striving to be “perfect,” you gave yourself permission to be real?
Inspired by Brené Brown’s beloved book The Gifts of Imperfection, this online course study is an invitation to set aside the masks and the pressure of “having it all together,” and instead explore the freedom, courage, and connection that come from living wholeheartedly.
Over the course of several weeks, we’ll gather together on Zoom for live, interactive sessions where you’ll have the chance to reflect, share, and practice Brené’s 10 guideposts for wholehearted living. Each week, you’ll be gently guided through conversations and exercises that help you:
Release the grip of perfectionism and comparison.
Cultivate practices of self-compassion, rest, play, and creativity.
Strengthen your courage to show up authentically—in all areas of life.
Build meaningful connections in a safe, supportive community.
This course study is not about working harder on yourself. It’s about softening, pausing, and making space to grow into who you already are. Each session includes guided practices, reflection prompts, and optional between-session exercises to help you integrate what you’re learning into your daily rhythm.
Course Format:
Weekly 90-minute live Zoom sessions (recordings available if you miss a week)
Supportive community discussions and reflections
Gentle at-home practices to deepen your experience
Come as you are. Bring your questions, your hopes, and even your doubts. This is a course study where imperfection is not just welcome—it’s the gift we’ll explore together.
