About this Retreat
Your Guides
After 7 years of building an Environmental Lawyer career dealing with EU Affairs regarding energy matters in Brussels, Carla quitted this lifestyle to follow a profound calling to become a Death Doula. Her favourite Death Doula is Ayahuasca herself and this sacred medicine has become one of her teachers.
In 2022, together with her husband Fred, Carla created Taozen with the aim of sharing sacred (plant) medicines with the world whilst respecting and collaborating with the indigenous communities that have preserved this ancient wisdom throughout the centuries. She is using her legal background to help some Amazonian communities get international recognition and protection in the UN and EU institutions.
Carla is also a certified psychedelic preparation & integration specialist that bridges science and spirituality. She uses dreamwork and Embodied Imagination, a technique influenced by Carl Jung's perspective on dreams as symbolic reflections of the self and the personal/collective unconscious. Given the remarkable similarities in the neural pathways and neurochemistry of brains that are either dreaming or having a psychedelic journey, Carla loves to employ dreamwork techniques to help people integrate their Ayahuasca journeys.
In 2020 she got her Yoga Teacher Training and she’s been teaching yoga ever since. You’ll find her guiding the yoga sessions at each Taozen retreat!
Carla is currently finalising her Priestesshood studies in an Ancient Egyptian Mystery School. Her focus areas include Ancient Egyptian mythology, Shamanism, Reiki, Hermeticism, Alchemy, Qigong, Astrology, Divination and Oracle Arts, Tarot, Gene Keys,, and Birth & Death Doula work.
Fred is the Co-Founder of Taozen and a plant medicine advocate. Having personally and regularly witnessed the transformative power of entheogens for more than eight years, Fred’s mission is to help people alleviate any needless suffering they through responsible, intentional and reciprocal medicine work.
Knowing first-hand the effectiveness of both individual and collective healing, Fred brings his multi-faceted experience of psychedelic preparation, individual shadow work, grounded group integration, trauma-informed psychology and men’s circle facilitation in service to each and every Taozen guest.
As a keen student of the likes of Marc Aixalá, Kile M. Ortigo, Carl Jung, Dr. Gabor Maté, Richard Rudd, Robert Edward Grant, Paramahansa Yogananda, Seneca, David R. Hawkins M.D. Ph.D and many more, Fred blends his interests of timeless, ancient wisdom with modern, practical and evidence-based methods to ensure every Taozen guest feels prepared and supported throughout their entire journey. He is also a firm believer in the notion that everyone and everything can be a teacher for us, if we are open to this possibility and are willing to listen.
In addition to the in-person retreats and experiences, Fred’s proficiency for tech, marketing, systems-building and writing comes in handy for various elements of Taozen, alongside his wife, co-founder and best friend Carla.
Outside of Taozen, Fred reads and listens to non-fiction, produces rave and ambient music, keeps attentive each day to overcome his perfectionism, self-doubt and self-deception tendencies, nerds out with AI, biohacking and advanced ancient civilisations, and leads a creative agency working with some of the world’s biggest brands.
Taita Victoriano Piaguaje Yaiguaje is a direct heir of the ancestral wisdom of the Siona tribe and bearer of the knowledge transmitted by his grandfather, Taita Laureano Piaguaje Piaguaje.
With a unique connection to tradition and sacred songs in the Siona language, Taita Victoriano continues to practice ancestral medicine in its purest form, carrying remedies and teachings deeply rooted in the Amazon rainforest.
Taita John Alexander is an experienced Colombian shaman who has achieved national and international recognition thanks to his knowledge in the area of ancestral plant medicine and ethnobotany.
John Alexander grows his own medicines in his home in the Cali mountains and in the Colombian Amazon (Putumayo), where he has also been developing projects to protect and preserve sacred indigenous traditions and ancestral values of different Colombian tribes.
His entire life has been dedicated to the wisdom of traditional indigenous medicine for life enhancement, detoxification, healing addiction, as well as different physical, mental and spiritual illnesses.
His mission is to transmit and bring his knowledge to anyone that feels the calling. With great humility, simplicity, respect and patience he gives a healing treatment that is personalised for each one of his patients.
Marisol Palacios Solarte is a woman deeply connected to her indigenous roots, dedicated to the preservation and transmission of ancestral knowledge. Her spiritual path began in El Tambo, Cauca (Colombia),guided by her indigenous grandmother, who passed on to her a deep respect forbotany and traditional herbalism.
From an early age, Marisol learned to work with sacred plants such as yagé (ayahuasca), coca and tobacco, also developing a special bond with the mineral and craft kingdom, fundamental elements of the Andean cosmovision.
Throughout her life, Marisol has been a tireless student and practitioner of the healing arts. Her spiritual formation deepened in Brazil, where between 2000 and 2013, she immersed herself in the traditions of Santo Daime, Barquinha, Umbanda and Umbandaime. In these years, she cultivated and developed her mediumship gift through spiritual practices and the study of Kardecism, thus enriching her capacity to serve as a spiritual guide.
Marisol has travelled the path of various indigenous traditions, learning directly from maestros and maestras during dietas in the jungles of Colombia and Brazil.
As a mother of three children, she has dedicated her life to empowering women, promoting the harmonisation of feminine energy through holistic and traditional therapies.
With more than 25 years of experience in traditional medicine, Marisol is a specialist in uterine healing, womb cleansing, steaming, massages and a wide range of holistic therapies.
She stands out for her ability to facilitate esoterism, aura reading through gemmotherapy, and spiritist mediumship work.
As a spiritual guide of feminine power, Marisol inspires women to reconnect with their essence and inner power, rescuing and preserving the herbal formulas and ancestral practices of the midwife grandmothers around the world.

Our retreat center in the Amazon jungle has a maloca where the ceremonies will be held, as well as different cabins to sleep in.
With a 3ha of untouched rainforest, and an ancient river, you’ll find yourself in the heart of the jungle for the entire 11 days.
There have been three pumas spotted in the territory among other sacred guardians.
