About this Retreat
Kosho Janet Ault lives in Portland and holds the roles of Assistant Temple Manager at Heart of Wisdom and Manager of Trillium Zen practice house. She previously lived and trained at Great Vow Zen Monastery for six years, including two years of postulancy. She is a co-chair of the Engaged Buddhism Committee and believes deeply in the power of immersion into our original forest home and the universal soundscape to heal our perceived separation and guide our lives.
Linda Chōon Frischmeyer has practiced with the Zen Community of Oregon since 2004,
took jukai in 2014, and became a Community Zen Leader in 2023. She did embodied
mindfulness work through M.E.T.A.(Mindful Experiential Therapeutic Approaches) in
2011 and attended The School for The Work of Byron Katie in 2018. Chōon facilitates
drop-ins to do The Work of Byron Katie at Heart of Wisdom Zen Temple and online, and
supports ZCO members interested in it. She retired from a 35-year law career at the
end of 2015 and continues to enjoy time with her husband, Michael Sojin Kip, cycling,
cooking, and knitting stuffed animals and Ego (a doll)."
Onkatsu Doug Kagel lives in S.E. Portland and has 2 grown children and 2 grandkids. He has been studying Zen with ZCO for 16 years. He has been on the board, is currently membership chair, has held numerous service positions and helped with the post-purchase remodel of Heart of Wisdom. Onkatsu became a Community Zen Leader in 2023. He is moved by the open-hearted, sincere dharma teachings at ZCO. He loves that our practice is rooted in Great Vow Monastery and expressed in the cities of Vancouver and Portland.
