About this Retreat

Emma’s lifelong passion for nature began in the French Alps and deepened when she moved to Australia and discovered surfing. After learning to surf in 2018, she recognised the unique challenges adult women face and realised that a holistic approach—combining mindset, ocean awareness, and body care—could boost confidence and performance.
Inspired by her own journey, Emma created Lunawave, a space she wished existed when she first started surfing. Certified by the International Surfing Association and trained in mobility and yoga, Emma has honed her skills in Australia, Indonesia, Sri Lanka, and Portugal. At Lunawave, she combines her love for surfing with wellness, crafting a supportive environment focused on rest, nourishment, and self-respect. Her mission is to empower women to strengthen their connection with the ocean—and themselves—while fostering a deeper appreciation for the natural world.
As an environmental scientist, Emma understands the importance of sustainability in and out of the ocean. She is dedicated to creating a sustainable retreat and educating guests on respecting the environment and how to protect it. From mindful resource use to eco-friendly practices, Emma incorporates sustainability into every aspect of Lunawave Retreat
Your Yoga Teacher

Laura is an E-RYT 500-certified yoga teacher with over a thousand hours of training. She is currently advancing her expertise in yoga therapy with the Svastha Yoga Centre under Dr. Mohan, A.G. Mohan, and Indra Mohan—students of the legendary Krishnamacharya—and deepening her understanding of somatic practices and emotional health through Compassionate Inquiry with Gabor Maté and Sat Dharam Kaur.
With nearly 15 years of dedicated practice and study, Laura’s teaching blends the timeless wisdom of yoga with modern insights into female health, hormones, and wellness, as well as the dynamic energy of surf culture. Her approach empowers women to build physical strength, mental resilience, and emotional balance, fostering a deep connection to their bodies both on the mat and in the water. Through her sessions, Laura supports women in aligning with their natural cycles, enhancing their surf practice, and cultivating self-awareness and vitality.
Your Female Health Coach

Irina’s journey as a certified female health coach is deeply personal, shaped by the challenges she faced growing up and her determination to understand her own health. Her path led her to explore holistic wellness, where she discovered that true health is an ongoing journey requiring an integrative, whole-body approach.
Her holistic approach combines nutrition, movement, stress management, and gut and liver health, all tailored to empower women toward optimal well-being.
Through her work at the retreat, Irina supports women in embracing a balanced, empowered lifestyle that enhances both their surf practice and overall health, fostering connection to both themselves and the natural world around them.

Ana’s passion for food is rooted in creating vibrant, balanced meals that nourish both body and soul. She combines plant-based principles with the flexibility of vegetarian, fish, and meat options, crafting dishes rich in color, texture, and flavour. Ana is deeply committed to using organic, seasonal ingredients, ensuring each meal is as fresh and nourishing as it is delicious.
For Ana, food is an experience, and she believes the table is where meaningful connections are made. Her approach to nutrition supports both energy and rest, essential for a balanced surf lifestyle. She focuses on meals that promote hormonal health, recovery, and sustained energy, using nutrient-dense ingredients to help guests feel their best on and off the waves.
During the retreat, Ana will host a cooking class where guests can learn to prepare easy, wellness-focused meals using seasonal ingredients. She’ll also provide a recipe book to take home, so guests can continue their journey of nourishing themselves with wholesome dishes long after the retreat ends.

Directions to The Honest Place, Burgau (from Faro Airport)
Private Shuttle:
We can organise a private transfer directly to Burgau for an extra charge. This option is convenient and takes about 1 hour 15 minutes. Be sure to pre-book for a hassle-free trip.
By Car:
From Faro Airport, follow the signs to the A22 motorway (also called Via do Infante).
Take the A22 westbound toward Lagos. Stay on the A22 for approximately 90 km.
Exit the A22 at Lagos and follow the signs to the N125, heading west toward Vila do Bispo.
Continue on the N125 for about 10 km, then take the exit for Burgau.
Once you reach Burgau, follow signs to the village center. The Honest Place is within walking distance of the beach parking area.
By Public Transport:
From Faro Airport, take a bus or taxi to Faro Train Station or Faro Bus Terminal.
From Faro Train Station, catch a train to Lagos (journey time: about 1 hour 45 minutes). Alternatively, from Faro Bus Terminal, take a bus to Lagos (journey time: about 2 hours).
From Lagos, take a local bus to Burgau (journey time: 30 minutes).
Once in Burgau, The Honest Place is a short walk from the bus stop near the village center.
By Taxi or Ride Share:
From Faro Airport, you can take a taxi or use ride-share services like Uber or Bolt. The journey to Burgau takes approximately 1 hour 15 minutes by car. Simply provide the driver with the destination “The Honest Place, Burgau.”
