About this Retreat
For over 25 years, I’ve been passionate about helping people learn, grow, and thrive. As a college biology professor with a Master’s degree in Biology and Education, I’ve taught and mentored over 6,000 students. I’ve always felt called to make a difference and inspired to make the world a little better by helping people rise up.
Then, after years of giving to everyone else, one dark day my body reached its breaking point. A lifetime of living in survival mode, stuffing down my feelings and pain, and people-pleasing without healthy boundaries finally caught up with me. I felt broken, in despair, and in terrible pain.
I tried all the conventional Western medicine solutions, but nothing helped. As I opened my mind to the possibility that this might be caused by unresolved trauma and painful emotions, healing began to arrive. The loving universe brought many different types of healers into my life. Suddenly, I could walk again—and hope returned.
I walked the very path I now share with others. I promised myself I would pay forward all the healing and love I received when I was in need.
Today, I bring that same dedication to coaching, supporting my clients as they create happier, healthier, more vibrant lives.

Some people call me “Master Yoda” because I’ve spent decades helping others find their own wisdom and strength. While studying and researching healing modalities I became inspired to put much of what I learned into a handbook to help others. So I wrote my first book, Who’s Walking Who, to guide others on their own healing path.
For over 10 years, I’ve developed and taught communication courses, mentoring more than 1,500 people along the way. I’m also a U.S. Marine Corps veteran, and I’ve coached for over 30 years in wrestling, motorcycle racing, and personal development.
Since 1988, I’ve owned and operated a landscape construction business, which has taught me the value of patience, dedication, and creativity. I’m also a five-year veteran of Burning Man, where friends know me as “Chuy Caramel.”
All of these experiences, along with my own healing journey, have shaped my approach to coaching—blending discipline with compassion, structure with humor, and always meeting people where they are.
My passion is helping you feel more confident, connected, and fully alive. I look forward to supporting you on your journey.
