About this Retreat
Dan is a co-founder and resident host at Awakening Alchemy Retreat Centre in rural Aberdeenshire. A certified Alexander Technique teacher, he came to this work through his own experience of burnout and back pain. His approach combines body awareness, mindful movement, gentle touch and calm presence, helping guests explore tension and reconnect with their bodies at their own pace.
Dan's earlier background includes a degree in astrophysics, a master's in environmental management, and work in corporate sustainability and leadership. At the retreat he may offer Alexander Technique, meditation, sound and reflective conversation. Together with Tomaz, he personally welcomes guests and shapes their stay. His work is holistic wellbeing support, not psychotherapy or clinical care.
Tomaz is a co-founder and resident host at Awakening Alchemy Retreat Centre. Practising Ayurveda since 1989, he brings experience from clinics and retreats across four continents. His work draws on Ayurveda, meditation, Soul Alchemy coaching, hypnosis, sound and reflective inquiry, including parts work informed by Internal Family Systems (IFS).
Tomaz adapts sessions to the individual and respects each guest's pace. His care also extends to the meals, rooms and everyday details of the stay. He and Dan personally guide the retreat from the first enquiry through to departure. This is holistic coaching and restorative support, not psychotherapy, counselling, medical or psychiatric treatment; deeper work is optional and discussed individually.
Details of this retreat
A private retreat for one person in rural Aberdeenshire, shaped around your needs. Stay four nights in the upstairs suite, with meals prepared here, individual support from resident hosts Dan and Tomaz, and quiet time between sessions. Dates and suitability are discussed before a booking is agreed.
You may know that you need time away without knowing exactly what kind of retreat you need. At Awakening Alchemy Retreat Centre in Midmar, Dan and Tomaz help you shape a private stay around rest, reflection and the support you are looking for.
You are the only retreat guest booking during your stay. The retreat centre, gardens and grounds are reserved for your exclusive guest use, with no unrelated retreat guests or local treatment appointments. Dan and Tomaz live here, prepare your meals and provide the individual sessions agreed with you.
Your five-day stay includes four nights in the upstairs suite, with a super king bed, private bathroom and lounge. The bathroom is private, not ensuite. Between sessions there is time to rest, read, reflect or enjoy the grounds without a group timetable or an expectation to socialise.
Your programme may draw on reflective coaching, Alexander Technique, meditation, body awareness and other agreed restorative practices. A quieter retreat is possible. Deeper emotional work, hypnosis or ceremonial practices are optional, discussed separately and never a requirement for coming here to rest.
Awakening Alchemy offers holistic coaching and restorative support. Dan and Tomaz are not psychotherapists, counsellors or clinicians. The retreat does not provide medical or psychiatric treatment, crisis care, detox or continuous or overnight support. There is no promised breakthrough or guaranteed outcome.
