About this Retreat
Mamoon is the founder of LEARN and a co-collaborator on Quetzal retreats. He’s an artist with a love for music, guided meditation, and creativity. He enjoys playing instruments, composing new songs, and blending music with dynamic breathing exercises.
Over the past 2 years, his guided meditations on Youtube & Insight Timer have been played more than a quarter of a million times by a growing community of daily listeners.
Having spent half of his adult life working at plant medicine retreat centers in Central & South America, Mamoon has come to embody a meaningful bridge for Westerners seeking to experience Ayahuasca in the jungle, where the medicine naturally grows and thrives.
Mamoon lives in Costa Rica, where he collaborates with experienced curanderos and supporting facilitators. The medicine family that he chose to study with came after nearly a decade of searching across Ecuador, Colombia, Chile, and eventually Costa Rica... where he unexpectedly encountered the curanderos he had long been seeking.
Mamoon’s medicine teachers (husband & wife ayahuasqueros) carry more than 30+ years of combined experience in indigenous ways of healing. Their path is rooted in the medicine traditions of the Natives from the North... Vision Quest, Temazcal, and Grandfather Peyote—while also skillfully integrating the Amazonian traditions of the South... such as Kambo, Hapé & Grandmother Ayahuasca.
(Research the “Prophecy of the Eagle and Condor” to learn more about the approach of the medicine family Mamoon collaborates with on LEARN & Quetzal.)
Mamoon is not a shaman or curandero. Instead, he works closely alongside them throughout the process, supporting individuals from around the world in preparing for ceremony, navigating the experience, and integrating what arises.
In addition to helping facilitate private retreats, Mamoon also co-creates Quetzal, a 6-day Psilocybin group retreat. Like LEARN, Quetzal is guided by the same trusted medicine family he studies with year-round in Costa Rica.
Mamoon’s life path has been influenced by nearly a decade of working, apprenticing, and volunteering at various Ayahuasca healing centers across the Americas, along with over 12 years of navigating Psilocybin macro journeys.
The art of energy retention has also been an impactful practice for Mamoon. For the past five years, he’s deepened this practice within a meaningful, intimate & committed relationship. Mamoon describes himself not as an expert, but as a fellow traveler... still humbled by how challenging it can be to retain, harness, and guide life energy.
Mamoon’s personal struggles with navigating the miseries & the mysteries of energy, give him compassion for the struggles others may be going through... along with gratitude for how Ayahuasca & Psilocybin—when paired with the right support, can transform scattered energy into a creative blessing.

Quetzal 6-Day Psilocybin Healing Retreat:
The following writing comes directly from the medicine family Mamoon collaborates with on Quetzal.
"In the heart of Costa Rica’s Central Valley, right next to a national park, you'll find the land where local husband-and-wife shamans live, and where they welcome you to do deep introspective work with the medicine of the mushrooms.
This retreat is not just about meeting the psilocybin, it's an experience held within a spiritual framework, woven from decades of working with various Indigenous traditions from across the Americas.
From the North, we have walked with the Vision Quest, the Peyote ceremonies, and the teachings of the Mexica culture through the Moon Dance and the Temazcal — spaces of purification, prayer, and renewal. We have also received the medicine of the Sonoran Desert, from Mexico, with the Bufo, learning from its powerful, transformative nature.
From the South, we have been deeply nourished by the songs and teachings of the Shipibo people with the grandmother Ayahuasca, as well as practices from the Amazon like Kambó, each leaving its mark and offering impactful lessons that inform the way we hold space today.
Set apart is the sacred medicine of Psilocybin, which we also approach through the learnings we received from a Native Yupik medicine woman from Alaska, who, together with her partner, showed us the way they carry and work with this medicine. This connection has been a true gift, helping us understand the depth, respect, and delicacy with which this work can be approached.
In this 6 day retreat, we focus not only on the meeting with the mushrooms but also on the integral process of preparation and integration. For preparation, we use tools like the Kabbalistic Tree of Life, which helps us reflect on how we distribute our energy day by day and supports us in clarifying the intention we bring to the encounter with the medicine.
For integration, we offer two phone calls and a virtual community space called Remembering, where you will have access after the retreat to stay connected, engage with others who have journeyed with us, listen, share, and revisit the teachings received. We believe integration is an essential part of the process, a space where the seeds planted during the retreat can continue to grow and flourish.
Here we work the land, living in an evolving off-grid project where we build, grow some of the food we consume, and honor the natural altars that surround us. For us, this connection with the land is part of our prayer.
If this message resonates with you, we warmly welcome you to come, meet us, and experience this space, this medicine, this path.
Pura Vida. 🌿✨"

Quetzal FAQ
What’s the role of psilocybin in this journey?
Psilocybin in this journey is like both a mirror and teacher. It can help you see the patterns you live by, the beliefs you carry, and the emotions you’ve held. Although mushrooms are not just about insight: they invite connection with your body, with nature, with others, and with the mystery of life itself.
What if I’ve never worked with psilocybin before?
That’s completely ok. The retreat is designed for both beginners and experienced practitioners. The first ceremony is an “intro handshake journey,” which allows you to meet the medicine gently before stepping into a deeper macro-journey later in the week.
Is this retreat religious?
No. Quetzal draws wisdom from Indigenous traditions of the North and South, from Kabbalistic teachings, and from lived connection with the land — but it is not tied to a single religion. The retreat is inclusive for people of all paths and backgrounds.
Why include Temazcal, Peyote, Cacao, and breathwork?
Each of these is a powerful medicine in its own right. Temazcal supports purification and grounding. Peyote (micro-doses) give energy and strength. Cacao opens the heart and softens the integration process. Breath-work creates body-mind awareness, which carry into the mushroom experience. Together, they hold and balance the Psilocybin journeys.
What is the role of Bufo in the retreat?
Bufo Alvarius is offered as an optional experience. For some, it provides a glimpse into the vastness of consciousness in a brief but powerful way, supporting deeper surrender in the psilocybin work.
Why the “Tree of Life” phone calls before the retreat?
The Tree of Life framework helps you reflect on how your energy is distributed across different areas of life. This creates clarity for your intention before ceremony, and serves as a map to guide integration afterward.
What if I’m unsure whether I can handle a “heroes” journey of psilocybin?
Your retreat is paced with care. The first journey is intentionally lighter. The second, deeper ceremony is optional — you are always free to step in at the depth that feels aligned for you.
How do I know if Quetzal is right for me?
Quetzal is ideal for those who feel called to explore the healing capacity of mushrooms, with an intentional & indigenous (yet modern & scientific) approach to the medicine. If you feel curious, uncertain, or pulled toward this path, we invite you to reach out and explore further alignment.
