About this Retreat
Mee Lain has been an educator in public and private school systems in Canada and China, a licensed Acupuncturist, Herbalist, Medical Qi Gong Therapist, and Doctor of Traditional Chinese Medicine for a total of 23 years.
Mee Lain follows a long lineage of doctors in both Western and Eastern traditions on both her father’s and mother’s sides.
Mee Lain began her own personal expansion while teaching English for two years at the Jiangxi University of Traditional Chinese Medicine in Nanchang City, China.
This exposure tranformed her as she had been deeply yearning from a very young age to find a comprehensive, holistic system of medicine to study. She then graduated from the 5-year full time Dr. TCM program at the Tzu Chi International College of Traditional Chinese Medicine (Vancouver, Canada), including postgraduate clinical studies in Taichong, Taiwan. In Canada, the title of Doctor of Traditional Chinese Medicine is the highest rank in this profession.
Mee Lain dedicated 12 years to running her clinic full-time in B.C., Canada in shared clinic space with a Western medical doctor. After meeting her best friend and soulmate Janek while studying Medical Qi Gong and starting a family together, she has reduced her availability to part-time the past few years to focus on raising her family.
Countless times, patients have told her they only really understood their state of health and how to help themselves after receiving her guidance, carefully explained TCM diagnosis, list of recommendations, and treatments. Having attained both a Bachelor's degree in Education and a Masters of Arts in Education from the University of British Columbia in Vancouver, B.C., Mee Lain's second passion is sharing knowledge.
She is now passionate about sharing the Secret Pearls of Chinese Medicine. Her patients' feedback over the years has deeply inspired her to now be focused on offering retreats in the warm, inviting clime of Spain that integrate this educational and experiential healing power of Traditional Chinese Medicine.
She is particularly grateful to be able to offer retreats in balanced collaboration with her dear soulmate, Janek.
Janek has been a professional geologist and researcher for over 15 years, as well as a certified Medical Qi Gong Therapist and Instructor.
His unique journey bridges modern science and ancient energetic medicine, weaving his background in geoscience disciplines with the subtle Art of Qi cultivation.
After completing his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Geology at Masaryk University in the Czech Republic and working internationally in mineral exploration and consulting, Janek’s focus is now on the study of internal healing and energy work.
A lifelong athlete, Janek’s own injuries and recovery experiences led him to explore Medical Qi Gong and Regression Therapy as paths to restore balance and vitality.
His studies at the International Institute of Medical Qi Gong (Henan, China) and the Empty Mountain Institute in Vancouver, Canada, deepened his understanding of how emotional, mental, and spiritual states shape physical health.
Today, he works with a wide range of clients — from seniors to high-performance athletes — helping them reconnect with their breath and authentic self through Qi Gong practices, Regression Therapy, and personalized healing sessions.
Janek believes that true health arises from harmony among body, mind, and spirit — a philosophy that guides his teaching and his collaboration with his beloved soulmate, Mee Lain.
A little bit about how this retreat came into being:
Janek and Mee Lain synchronistically met many years ago while studying Medical Qi Gong in person with Empty Mountain Institute, licensed by Henan University in China. At that time Mee Lain was operating her TCM clinic full-time in Metro Vancouver, Canada, while Janek was working worldwide as a Professional Geologist (P.Geo). Upon returning from each site visit, Janek would share Qi Gong through structured classes with interested participants, using the practice as a powerful way to restore balance and recover from the demanding nature of his work.
Feeling very strongly about weaving their skills and passions together, Mee Lain and Janek set a vision to one day offer retreats in Chinese Medicine and Qi Gong. To prepare them further for this, Mee Lain was offered the opportunity to develop her own 50 hour course on the Basic Foundations and Diagnostics of TCM which she then privately taught for three years.
Meanwhile, Janek deepened his teaching experience through leading Qi Gong meditations and movement classes while serving as an Assistant Coach for a Junior A hockey team for three years.
Now Mee Lain and Janek are ready — the stars have aligned in their lives — and they have taken the leap to offer these unique seasonal Chinese Medicine Health and Qi Gong retreats in Spain!
Together, they offer enriching retreat experiences that nurture conscious awareness and align individuals with the deeper wisdom of our Highest Self and the Universe.
Details of this retreat
Do you have more health questions than answers that are not adequately getting addressed, or that you want to address in a natural way as much as possible?
Do you want to leave a retreat with the language, practical knowledge, and understanding of your health condition, its root causes, and what you can do to cultivate greater vibrant health?
Do you believe you have the power to heal yourself physically, emotionally, mentally, spiritually?
If you answered yes to any or all of the above, then wherever you are at, come immerse yourself in tranquility at our Chinese Medicine Health & Qi Gong Retreat near Pinoso, Alicante, Spain.
Just like the quote, “Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day; teach him to fish and you feed him for a lifetime.”
Our intention is to do this as regards to health:
“Give someone a health treatment and you care for them for a day; teach someone to heal themself and you care for them for a lifetime.” ~ Dr. Mee Lain, Doctor of Traditional Chinese Medicine, Dr. TCM, #03509 (B.C., Canada)
Therefore, “how to heal” means learning to read your body and address your own symptoms and root causes of illness, and Traditional Chinese Medicine offers a comprehensive, simultaneously holistic system of knowledge through which to learn and apply in this process of healing oneself.
This retreat will have a small group of maximum 14 people.
Tailored to individual and group needs and embraced by the serene beauty of nature, you will flow through a balanced rhythm of Qi Gong movement, breathwork, meditations, and interactive seminars on Traditional Chinese Medicine concepts, principles, and nutrition.
In our seminars, we will explore in depth the theories of Yin and Yang, the 5 Elements, the external and internal pathogens causing disease according to TCM, the Vital Substances, and much more.
And what is Qì Gōng? (written 氣功 in Chinese characters) If you are not already familiar, “Qì” 氣 means breath, energy, or life-force that animates every living being. Qi is both what is needed to move our blood, and since Qi is immaterial, it must also be carried by the material, i.e. blood and body fluids. “Gōng” 功translates to skill, work or cultivation of an achieved result.
So “Qì Gōng” literally means “breath skills”, or the “cultivation of one’s life force energy” referring to a system of breathing, including healing sounds and movements, that build up and replenish (not consume) one’s Qi.
In Chinese Medicine and philosophy, everything to do with our physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual bodies corresponds to the Five Elements (or Dynamics) in nature. So each season relates to a different set of organ systems, tissues, senses, natural cycles in the environment, planets, etc.
We are intentionally offering this retreat in February as Winter in the northern hemisphere draws to a close. The Season of Winter relates to the Kidney and Bladder organ systems and their related Physical (skeletal and metabolic systems, bone marrow, brain, ears/hearing), Emotional (i.e. states of fear), Spiritual (Turtle), and Aligned (Wisdom) aspects.
Therefore, our meditations and breath work, our Qi Gong practice will focus on exercises such as “bone breathing”, and “packing in the Qi” into our kidneys, adrenals, metabolic system, skeletal system, pelvic and hip joints, to name a few.
We want to share with you a Qi Gong practice of how to energetically clear, cleanse, cultivate, and nourish these two organ systems and their related aspects physically and energetically.
Overall, we are here to help you really tune into your health needs, understand the root causes of whatever condition you come wishing to address, and be empowered to shift your being to a state of harmony and well-being in all ways physically, emotionally, mentally, and spiritually.
Whatever point of consciousness you are at, if you want to be completely in the driver’s seat of your entire well-being in order to invigorate your health, this retreat is for you!
