About this Retreat
Your Guides
Bernardo has been practicing and teaching Yoga for over 8 years. His teaching style is based on traditional Hatha Yoga, combined with knowledge of other forms of Yoga including Alignment, Vinyasa, Kundalini, Nidra, and Therapy Yoga.
He uses his practice to teach how one can overcome physical and mental weaknesses to develop a body that is healthy, anatomically aligned, flexible and strong, with internal organs working in balance, a breath that responds well to different positions and situations - as an aid to the mind and it’s emotions, and a mind that is focused and relaxed according to the needs of life.
With this system in unison, our human experience can be accomplished with joy and peace. Bernardo owns a studio in his homeland Brazil and works exclusively with Plantation Villa, developing their approach to yoga teaching and running Master Classes and Retreats around the world for the past two years.
He is also a teacher of Vedic Chanting from the Krishnamacharya tradition.

Plantation Villa is a specialist Wellness Nature Retreat situated in a rural village in Sri Lanka, specializing in Ayurveda and Yoga. We are a community center established and run by this village community.
The retreat funds and maintains the Metta Trust charity to do community development, wildlife conservation and forest preservation activities. We maintain the local temples, village schools and fund majority of the community activities in our village and surrounding villages.
Over 90% of our staff team are local villagers from underprivileged backgrounds who we have trained and offered employment along with mentoring to improve their lives and the lives of their children.
We specialize in Ayurveda which is an ancient art of healing the body and mind through nutrition, relaxation, and herbal treatments. Our Ayurvedic doctors and senior therapists have over 15yrs of experience.
If you come on our package rate, you will consult our Ayurvedic doctor who will develop your treatment plan to focus on your wellness goals and to address any existing ailments you may be suffering from.
You can join the yoga classes to help with your mind/body connection and general mindfulness. We aim to provide a mind/body wellness experience through Ayurveda, nutrition, and mindfulness in a relaxing environment.
In addition to treating the body through Ayurveda treatments and nutrition, we aim to offer a personalized service where we understand and care for our customers. Being a small center allows us the luxury to look after each of our guests in a very personalized manner.
You are invited to join in the paddy harvesting and fruit/vegetable and spice picking. Cooking demonstrations are offered and you can join if you are interested.

SRI LANKA: Getting to Us from the Airport
The main airport in Sri Lanka is the Colombo International Airport. One interesting thing to note is that this is not actually in Colombo but instead in a town called Ja-ela about 45kms north of Colombo! The Airport has been renovated and you should find it comfortable. If you want to get some cash, a local sim-card for your mobile etc, you can do this in the airport.
The airport is not well linked to public transport networks yet so getting anywhere from the Airport is easiest by taxi or car. If you want to use public transport, you will need to catch a bus to Colombo and then take a train to Kalutara South or Katukurunda Station. From there, get a tuk tuk to us which will cost you about $10-15. Tuk tuk drivers are notorious to be opportunists and at times can be difficult to handle.
The safest and most convenient would be a taxi or car. We maintain a car in the hotel for airport transfers of our guests to ensure their comfort and safety. Some of our guests encountered problems with outside taxis so we offer this option for those who are interested. Our car may be marginally more than outside taxi companies as they benefit from economies of scale unlike us. Our car is new, comfortable and environmentally friendly and our driver is safe and reliable. We charge $75 for a pick up including sanitization of the car, airport and highway charges. If you have booked our car to pick you up, you will find our driver at the Arrivals Hall holding up a board with your name on it. The drive will take about 1 hour along the highway that connect the airport to Colombo and Colombo to Kalutara. The plantation is about 4km from the highway exit, where the streets wind through the village, past the greenery and toward the main gates of the plantation.

The closest airports are Cardiff International Airport (CWL), Birmingham International Airport (BHX), and Bristol Airport (BRS), which are around a 90-minute drive to the retreat.

Accommodation
All rooms are tastefully decorated with ensuite bathrooms and modern facilities. The property is located in a small village called Nehinna, 80km away from the capital city, Colombo. The village is rural and has a traditional community feel. The property itself is a 30 acre plantation of Rubber, Coconut, Cinnamon and Black Pepper. The villa is surrounded by nature and is a habitat for rare local and migrant birds, butterflies and a plethora of tropical flora and fauna. It is a place to really focus on your own wellbeing and happiness and learn tools to improve your physical and mental wellness and how to incorporate them into your daily life, whilst being pampered and cared for by a loving team in a sanctuary created by nature.
