About this Retreat

Details of this retreat

In the lush mountains of Costa Rica’s Central Pacific Valley, our newest retreat space is alive with wildlife, birdsong, tropical gardens, and protected rainforest near Carara National Park.

Set along a biological corridor, the land offers sweeping valley views, fresh mountain air, and a deep sense of peace. Spacious indoor and outdoor communal areas invite connection and reflection, while gardens, nature trails, and onsite permaculture ground the experience in the living landscape. With a pool, gym, spa, and a range of thoughtfully designed accommodations, this retreat space supports deep rest, presence, and connection to the rhythms of the jungle.

At Soltara, we work with Indigenous Peruvian Shipibo Master healers and sacred plant medicine, as well as other traditional and modern healing modalities, to help you along this path of self-discovery. Our decades of combined experience holding ceremony and doing medicine work allow you to experience in-depth healing in a safe and loving environment. .

We are called to serve medicine in sacred ceremony with integrity, humility, and compassion. By creating a safe space and working only with experienced, well-intentioned healers and facilitators, we uphold the lessons of the medicines and build a foundation of mutual trust, authenticity, and respect. We are not gurus, preachers, or enlightened beings – our healers are maestros who humbly transmit the knowledge and healing energies of the plants, and our facilitators are devoted to helping guests face, process, and explore difficult experiences and emotions, handle projections, manage expectations, and surrender to the process. We strive to uphold the highest integrity in everything we do and be a beacon for responsible, safe, and ethical practices, such that our guests feel safe and supported to get the most out of their healing.

Menu Types

We believe healing even takes place in the kitchen. We take on the mantra by the Greek physician, Hippocrates: “Let food be thy medicine and medicine be thy food.” We honor the role of food in our lives and expand it beyond its primary purpose of bodily nourishment – food can be an avenue to dig deeper into ourselves, consciously looking at our patterns and mindsets surrounding not just what we eat, but how and why we eat what we do. Our eating habits don’t just affect our mental health, they also reflect it. At Soltara, we aim to help you jumpstart this process of connection through conscious cooking on all levels. Diet is an important part of the healing process, both on its own and also to help prepare the mind and body for plant medicine work. We work closely with our shamans to prepare wholesome, delicious meals that adhere to the traditional dietary guidelines of working with ayahuasca. All of our meals are freshly prepared in-house by our loving kitchen staff. From fresh smoothies and juices every morning, to plant-based meals emphasizing local, organic, and sustainable produce, to lean proteins such a chicken and fish, we celebrate the rich local flavor of Costa Rican cuisine, and offer a chance to experience a connection to the land and culture while nourishing the body, mind, and spirit.

Stellar! Surpising!
Since I used Retreat Guru to research which place to go to for my Ayahuasca journey, I feel compelled to leave a review to help others. After many, many hours of research, cross-checking, and soul searching, I settled on Soltara at Goddess Falls. I was not disappointed in the least. From preparation support, to logistics in getting to the location, comfort, safety and support on-site, to post-retreat follow-up and integration, Soltara has obviously does this a few times. They really seem to know what they're doing here! Although this is my first Ayahuasca retreat, I have experience with similar situations, from both the participant and organizer point of view.

I was incredibly pleased with all aspects of the retreat. The accommodations in the glamping tents were more than sufficient, and the queen mattresses were as comfy as anything I've ever slept in - and I am picky! Maybe the pillows could use a slight upgrade, but that's incredibly minor (they weren't uncomfortable at all). The food...oh my, the food!! Every meal was top-notch, and fit the dieta.

For ceremonies (4 in a 7-day retreat), what can I say? Words escape me, but I'll say what I can. Each was very unique, personally, and expectations should be left at home. I gained much more than I intended, and walked away shocked at the profound nature of the ceremonies. I have quite a bit of experience with other hallucinogens, but this is nothing like anything else I have experience. The personal work being done is not a "party", not that I expected that. It IS hard. It CAN be scary at times. Yet, it is also blissful, and deeply connecting. And this was in a matter of 10 minutes perhaps. Ha! Ha!

The two healers, from the Shipibo lineage were incredible. No prerecorded music here! Having an extensive background with performing, recording, and studying music of the world, there were things being done with their voices that I have never heard before. Otherworldly. Deep, ancient voices that are obviously drawing from well beyond themselves. I watched magic(for lack of a better word) performed, right in front of me.

The facilitators were each unique in their own right, allowing all participants to find somebody they deeply connected with, while also allowing different perspectives to challenge each of us to further the work we were all there to do. I truly found love and wisdom in all of them.

I could go on and on and on... and on... and on...

A HUGE THANK YOU to everybody that was with me on this ride, including the other participants. Love to and from them all!

If you are questioning which center to go with, I truly believe that you will not go wrong in choosing Soltara. I was questioning how soon, if ever, I wanted to go back. But as I sit her writing this, a little over a week out, I am wondering when I can make another journey. Soltara will be the choice, without hesitation.

Words don’t do it justice
It’s hard to honor the experience with words. I’m beyond blown away by the experience from the incredible facilitators, to the potent medicine, the beautiful land and the wonderful food. It is truly to be held. They really care about you and talk you through the experience when needed. It’s definitely one of the most profound experiences of my life and I recommend it to anyone that feels the call.

My first plant medicine retreat (5 nights, 3 ceremonies)
The first ceremony was pretty mellow, following suggestions for recommended first dose (1 cup, plus a ½ cup booster later in the night). Some limited purging with visuals similar to a therapeutic psilocybin dose. The second ceremony was much more intense (much stronger visuals), starting with a 1 and ½ first cup, and adding a 2/3 cup booster later in the night. The visuals led to contemplation (but not the experience of) death and then led to many hours of blissful states. Even after the ceremony, I just wanted to stay up and talk with the others about the beautiful night.

For the third ceremony, I decided to start off with a 1 and ¾ cup. A little more, but the medicine didn’t seem any stronger than the previous night…until the icaros started. The signing was incredibly powerful causing me to purge in many ways (vomiting, sweating, nose running, tears, and body movements), and this was paired with more of an experience of dying (though it wasn’t fearful). I kept saying to myself “this is so beautiful.’ I believe the two incredible maestros (brother and sister) were doing their most significant healing on me this night – which led to feelings of much greater connection and far less anxiety (which I was looking for).

The next day, I needed some support trying to understand it all. Soltara had 4 teachers (all incredibly kind, compassionate, and experienced) for our group of 15, which allowed me to talk with one teacher before breakfast, and a different teacher after lunch. That changed everything for me. I went from feeling broken in the morning to feeling so supported and healed by the afternoon. This was my first retreat, and before I thought it was all about the medicine. For me, it was the maestros and teachers that made all the difference. This practice takes an enormous amount of courage and effort. Support is the key.
