From reflective exercises to inspiring outdoor activities, each day is designed to facilitate personal growth and rejuvenation. Whether you're craving moments of quiet introspection or seeking connections with like-minded women, the Hoonah Matata Retreat provides a supportive space surrounded by the Amazing Alaskan frontier.

Each day will begin with meditation, sound healing and a coaching session by Kathy Headlee. Three farm to table meals will be provided daily. Meals will be provided by Alaska Bush Chef, Mark Browning. Such dishes will be made from garden grown greens, fresh salmon, halibut and dungeness crab.

Activities will include a day on the water whale watching, a boat ride to a secluded bay to observe local wildlife, a gondola ride up the mountain, a Tlingit dance show and totem carving demonstration, a fire cooked meal in a secluded bay and a trip to the cruise port for souvenir shopping. Sound baths and forest baths will also be provided.

The retreat is located in the newly renovated Hoonah Matata Lodge where you will have comfortable, warm surroundings with a cabin feel and a view of mountains and water to enjoy from the large outside porch.

This retreat is all inclusive with transportation, meals and activities from the time you set foot in Hoonah. It is a once in a lifetime chance to feel the energy and see the natural beauty that is Alaska.

Directions

Fly to Juneau, Alaska Seaplane or ferry to Hoonah. Ferry runs Monday or Thursday, 3 hours. Seaplane runs 4X daily, 20 min flight. Retreat vehicle will pick up at Seaplane or Ferry dock in Hoonah and drive them back for departure.

Accommodation

The rooms have two twin beds, night stands, night lights and drawers to unpack. There may be an option at an addition cost for a private room. The bathroom is shared but daily housekeeping and fresh towels are available. A yoga, meditation center is on the lower floor and the upper floor has a water, mountain view and ample seating. A large dining table and fully equipped gourmet kitchen is available for guests.

The lodge has four double occupancy bedrooms, singles may be available with shared bath. The Nectar mattresses, deluxe pillows, comforters, and duvets ensure a comfortable, cozy night's rest. The upstairs and downstairs family rooms offer comfortable seating, warm wood stove, gourmet kitchen and the upper deck seating makes the perfect spot to sip some tea, enjoy the view and watch the sunset.
We know the importance of a safe, clean place to rest.

Meals will include fresh vegetables, salmon, halibut, Dungeness crab, homemade sourdough bread, homemade ice cream, homemade granola and yogurt, garden grown organic salad

  • Emergency medical insurance (there is not a hospital on the island so insurance is recommended)
  • Transportation to Juneau and transportation away from Hoonah.
