About this Retreat
Corey Martin is a Yale-trained family physician driven to change the delivery of healthcare and improve the mental and physical health of our communities. He is a founder of
Innovations in Resilience and the
Bounce Back Project, a practicing private group physician, Bush Fellow, and a consultant to many healthcare and educational organizations in their response to clinician burnout. Driven to do this work by the loss of two colleagues and friends, Corey strives to create an environment of opportunity in which all of us can do the deep, heartfelt work of changing the way we show up and interact in each other’s lives.
One of the ways he does this is by facilitating resilience retreats across the United States and throughout the world. He is both a Certified Daring Way Facilitator and Center for Courage and Renewal Facilitator in training and facilitates workshops based on the work of Brené Brown and Parker Palmer. In his free time, he enjoys working on his farm which he has recently turned into an event center. He lives in Buffalo, MN with his three daughters. He is a recovering perfectionist and an aspiring “good enoughist”.

Join us for an extraordinary adventure retreat, crafted specifically for current and emerging healthcare leaders and providers who are passionate about building resilience and fostering growth in their communities. Set against the backdrop of Sonoma County's breathtaking redwood groves and coastal bluffs, this retreat offers a unique opportunity to reflect, connect, and rejuvenate amidst nature's beauty. As we embark on awe-inspiring hikes through Sonoma’s iconic landscapes, we invite you to embrace the challenge to “be fearless in the pursuit of what sets your soul on fire,” allowing this adventure to ignite your inner passion.
Our daily schedule seamlessly blends scenic exploration with enriching educational sessions led by expert facilitators. Mornings will begin with nourishing breakfasts and reflective practices, paving the way for invigorating workshops inspired by those at the forefront of personal development, including Parker Palmer and Brené Brown. These sessions will engage you in meaningful dialogue, encouraging you to unearth the stories and habits that may hinder authentic leadership. In the spirit of Ted Lasso, we aim to help you recognize that "success is not about winning; it’s about making a difference." By applying these lessons to your leadership journey, you will cultivate a richer understanding of how to empower yourself and your community effectively.
As evening approaches, our communal dinners will celebrate the flavors of Sonoma, enriching your experience through connections with fellow participants and guides. Each gathering will be an opportunity to reflect on the day's insights and foster a supportive environment for sharing growth and challenges faced as leaders in healthcare.
By the end of this transformative experience, you’ll leave with not only new tools and techniques but also a renewed sense of purpose and connection. As Ted Lasso would say, “don’t you dare settle for fine”—let this retreat challenge, inspire, and guide you toward a more authentic leadership path that serves those you lead. This retreat is designed for all fitness levels, ensuring that everyone can fully engage in the adventure.

DAILY ITINERARY
Day 1 (July 13th)
We recommend you arrive in San Francisco, CA, at least one day before the start of the retreat. San Francisco offers iconic vistas, historic neighborhoods, and hip shopping experiences. As you arrive here the day before our retreat starts, you can take in local arts and culture, explore the outdoors, indulge in a unique dining scene, or sit by the pool and relax. Plan to arrive at any time this day.
Tonight we are staying at the La Quinta Inn and Suite, SFO Airport North.
Day 2
We will start our day at our hotel in San Francisco with early morning breakfast. Then its off to our hotel for the week, Hotel Centro Sonoma Wine Country, Tapestry By Hilton. We travel via a comfortable passenger van to arrive at our hotel before meeting for our late morning and afternoon educational sessions. These sessions are about creating a brave space to do the heartfelt work of this retreat, as well as a deep dive into gratitude, relationships and mindset. We end the day by enjoying a lovely dinner together.
Tonight we are staying at the Hotel Centro Sonoma. Breakfast included.
Day 3
Morning educational sessions will be on creating space in our busy life – how to get clear on our values and set boundaries and allow for a new story of meaning and purpose to arise. After our morning sessions, we visit Fitch Mountain Park and Francis Ford Coppola Winery. The Fitch Mountain trail is located on the Southern Pomo people’s ancestral homelands. You will have an opportunity to explore a dense forest of trees and be afforded a great view of the valley below. Afterwards, we will visit the world of Francis Ford Coppola wines. On-site, you can purchase a wine tasting, explore the beautiful grounds, the vast collection of movie memorabilia from Francis Ford Coppola’s prestigious filmmaking career, and even play a game of bocce ball!
Tonight we are staying at the Hotel Centro Sonoma. Breakfast included.
Day 4
Morning educational sessions will focus on perfectionism, grief and forgiveness. In order to move into the life we want, we must get clear about what that does and does not entail. After our educational sessions, we hike the well-maintained and relatively easy Kortum Trail where you will get breathtaking views of the Pacific Ocean on this nice walk along the Sonoma coastline. Much of this trail is a double plank wood walkway that goes over wetland and offers sweeping views of the ocean and offshore sea stacks. There are optional side trips down to the beach or up the trailside rock outcroppings.
Tonight we are staying at the Hotel Centro Sonoma. Breakfast included.
Day 5
Morning educational sessions will use clearness committees to focus on how to create the life you desire. The practices of “letting go” offer us the space to lean into new ways of being and doing. Today, our hikes include the Armstrong Redwoods Grove Loop Trail and the Pioneer Nature Trail. Together, they form a 3.5-mile loop that will take you past the park’s oldest redwood, the Colonel Armstrong Tree, estimated to be more than 1,400 years old. Following our hikes, we will adventure to the Korbel Champagne Winery for tastings as we enjoy this California-based brand of bubbly that has been a staple of American celebrations.
Tonight we are staying at the Hotel Centro Sonoma. Breakfast included.
Day 6
Morning educational sessions will focus on transitions and continue to hone the vision for your new life with more meaning, purpose and joy. Today’s outdoor time is more relaxed as you can explore the farmer’s market, visit local shops, taste local wines, and enjoy the amenities located around the beautiful Sonoma Plaza. You might also use the free-to-explore block of time to relax at the hotel spending time reflecting by the pool or take another hike to a beautiful point overlooking the town of Sonoma.
Tonight we are staying at the Hotel Centro Sonoma. Breakfast included.
Day 7
Morning sessions will continue to sharpen the skills and capacities to create and sustain the changes you desire to lead from within. You will leave feeling supported, fulfilled, nurtured, and satisfied. We will arrive back at the San Francisco Airport by noon. Some travelers may choose to fly home later in the day, while others may want to spend more time checking out other parts of the San Francisco Bay Area, such as visiting the Golden Gate Bridge, Lombard Street, or Alcatraz.
